Instrumentation Engineering is the engineering specialization focused on the design and configuration and automated systems.
Instrument engineers usually have degrees in instrumentation engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering and sometimes in the newer field of Control engineering/control systems engineering, engineering physics, and [industrial physics]. They typically work for industries with automated processes, such as chemical or manufacturing plants, with the goal of improving system productivity, reliability, safety, optimization and stability.

Instrumentation is what is used to measure physical attributes or phenomenon.
- A thermometer is an instrument used to measure temperature
- A bathroom scale is an instrument used to measure weight
- A speedometer (in a car) is an instrument used to measure speed
- An electric meter outside your home or apartment is an instrument used to measure the electric energy you use in your home.
- A gas meter outside your home is an instrument used to measure the volume of gas you use in your home (heating, cooking) (if you have gas appliances)
There are alot of other things that need measuring in the world. One example is Airplanes. They need to have all these things measured: altitude, hydraulic pressure, position (of flaps, elevators, landing gear), pressure in the fuel tanks, engine RPM, and lots of others. To measure all these things there are measuring devices, and together they are called instrumentation.

You did not give enough details for a specific answer.
Generally, instrumentation is the collection of gauges and meters used to monitor a particular process or function.
For instance, the fuel gauge, oil gauge, tachometer, and speedometer in your car are the car's instrumentation. Other places to see instrumentation would be the cockpit of an airplane, or in a scientific experiment.
