Your Senators and Representatives started this many years ago when they tinkered with the tax system to give special favors to those who elected them. So now we have layer upon layer upon layer of complicated sections of the IRS Code that no one totally understands. It is a huge mess.

Because there is no easy way to figure out taxes and be fair.

And, in reality....For 25% of the country their taxes are earned income, apply exemptions, apply standard deductions, look tax up on table. Send to IRS for refund.

50% more itemize their deductions but don't have more than taxes, few charitable deductions and mortgage interest then submit to IRS for refund.

Taxes are really only difficult for the high income folks and/or small business owners and they pay an accountant to do it because it's simply not worth their time and efforts.

A tax code is used by your employer or pension provider to calculate the amount of tax to deduct from your pay or pension. If you have the wrong tax code you could end up paying too much or too little tax.

Because then the government could screw people out of extra money that they are entitled to! I know, the tax code is purposely written to be confusing...so the government can interpret it the way it works best for them! Sucks!
