God was trying to get the king of Egypt to let go of the israelite slaves. The king was very stubborn and would not let them go no matter what. God knew the people of Egypt were very bad and sinful. He knew from the start that he was going to eventually destroy them because of how bad they were. Him killing all the firstborns was just one of many things he did to try to let the king know he was serious about taking the israelites out of Egypt. But the King was an idiot and still wouldnt let them go. People should not murder, God is the supreme one and he can take anyone he wants to, if the king would have just let them go.

It was intended to be ironic. Just as Pharaoh ordered the death of all firstborn Hebrew children after Moses was born, God ordered the death of the Egyptian firstborn. The Law had not been given yet, so there was no official injunction against killing. Besides, we're talking about God. You want to argue? "'Vengeance is mine', says the Lord," and all that...

The 10th plague. Specifically, the purpose was for us to understand how the Lord made a distinction between Egypt and Israel [Ex. 11:7]; for, so long as the Israelites were obedient and followed God's commands concerning the feast and blood on the doorway posts, no Israelite firstborn died...they were passed over...hence the celebration of Passover.
God does not murder. Deut. 32:39-41 sets His authority:
"See now that I, I am He, and there is no god besides Me; it is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded and it is I who heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand..."

God did not.
the Egyptians did.
they were looking to insure that Moses did not survive.
you REALLY need to read the Bible before asking questions like that.

Because Pharoh disobeyed. If the man couldnt realize God was real after all the plagues... then he wasnt going to believe anything. I mean, for goodness sakes - He had like 6 chances to do the right thing.
Even after his first born son died and he let the Isrealites go, he still got stupid and got an army to run after them to bring them back. I wonder what God would have done if Pharoh had caught them and brought them back to Egypt....

The answer to this is pretty clear. Look it up on your own. Go to www.bible.com and check out Exodus chapters 7-12. It sounds like a lot but it's not that much reading.
Why are you asking?

If you take god out of the equation for just a second, there was a volcanic eruption not far away. It caused the lake to turn red, frog jumped out of it, and crickets came through town. The Egyptian first born had special beds on the ground while other children slept up in lofts. CO2 poisoning took out the first born.
Now you can go back to believing in magic.
I love al the christian answers, they just got what was coming to them I guess. Oh and that first answer was great.

because it was the last thing the pharaoh would take from God, he only had a son, and it was the son who was going to take over after the pharaoh passed away. it was also to show the Egyptians how powerful and serious God is.

It was during the 10 plagues a form of punishment to the Pharaoh for not releasing the Hebrews from slavery.

To prove a point to the disobediant Pharoah and those who put their faith him instead of God. The children's lives aren't the issue here.
