Against cosmetic testing. Human vanity isn't worth animal cruelty.
I'm not sure about medical testing.
Animals suffer through it and hundreds die in the testing of one drug. But this drug could save many more hundreds even thousands, millions of lives in the future including lives of animals.
There are regulations that say animals should suffer as little as possible to get the results needed but these aren't always met and there is some evidence that it is pointless testing drugs intended for humans on animals as the results are different because of genetic differences.
Some people also believe that humans have no right to make animals suffer for their own advancement.
But on a personal side practically everyone knows someone who has suffered a medical condition and they survived because of medical technology in drugs and surgery as a result of animal testing. As I said before, these drugs are also tested for animal health not just humans.
I am a great animal lover and I really wish that people would find other ways of developing these medical advancements that were just as effective as animal testing because so far they haven't.
So if I was forced to choose I'm afraid I'd have to go for "for" but only for necessary medical testing.

People are working all the time to get another alternative (Artifical Intelligence) Connectionist Psychologists are working to create artificial models of the human brain in order to recreate the diseases in humans and try and find viable solutions... I am all for this...anything that will reduce the harm on animals..
my friend has two rescued beagles from these centres and when I see how good natured they are I feel so terrible for what they, and other animals, have gone through and are still going through.
But, and I feel quite selfish in saying this... if one of my closest family/friends had an illness... and the only way they know that medications and treatments are suitable for treating and curing the illness is because they are tested on animals, I would be very grateful that those animals that gave their lives to help my family.
Overall the drugs always need testing on people anyway as we have different chemical structures to other animals... what's OK for them may be fatal for us and vice versa.
Very tricky question :S

I am firmly against it. It is cruel, and heartless. People use the excuse "But it might save human lives!" OK, if it is, I would think about it like either my own family member dies, or the lab rat. If that were the case, it would still be sad, but it has its benefits. However, that is not the case most of the time. They use defenseless animals to test makeups, shampoos, lotions, etc. They have no respect for animals and their feelings. It is a horrible act when these things could easily be tested on willing human beings. (Animals are just cheaper.) The people who abuse animals are (explitive) (explitive)s.

I don't really agree with it, but I see no suitable alternative. I hate the way animals suffer in those labs; I think it's disgusting. I hate cosmetic research on animals; that is just pointless, but unfortunately, I see no other way we can test out medicines. However, if anyone ever did find one, I'd be all for it. Those demonstartions you get in London are realyl moving, the animals are treated so bad.

I think it depends. If they are testing for things like cancer, or heart disease, you can't really test on humans. However for other things like cosmetics etc. there is no reason to test on animals. But I think without any animal testing it would take so long to get new drugs approved- because the government would never approve of testing on humans

No I think we should use humans for testing so that when the animals use the product we will be sure they are safe.

For.
If presently incurable illness in humans can benefit with help from the animals, why the hell not?
They could even put some makeup on them during treatment to improve their self esteem or at least allow them a smoke.
Too many bloody do gooders who cant get on with humans so love animals instead beyond all reason. A dog'll never let you down except when it chews next doors kid's face off.
I believe the bible says that god gave us the animals to do with what we like.
