You need to get to the public library and do some research - there's heaps of stuff out there on depression.
Talking to your mom may not hurt, although she may not be able to help much. Why won't she let you see a therapist, is it about the cost? Anyway, talking about it does help - how about a friend? I know once I found out a good friend of mine had similar experiences with depression, it really helped me. I'd known her for years before we talked about it!
But check out the library for sure. Good luck, and good on you for coming on here and opening up a bit, you've made a good start, don't give up.

I don't know of any books, because I never used any books. What I do is find sources online. There are a lot of websites that deal with depression and gives lots of advice. My boyfriend won't let me go see a counselor or a group either, basically the same story, he wants me to talk to him. My advice to you would be to do some research on the subject, either on the internet or at a local library. You can learn a lot from other's experiences and their advice. I would also suggest, if you can't talk to your mom, that you find someone that you can trust and talk to, whether it be another family member or a good friend.

If your mom won't let you get to a couselor, which I don't get, try doing physical activities like yoga and meditation. Also modify your diet, make sure it's very healthy, and get 8 solid hours of sleep.
You can also find clinics and couselors that work on a sliding scale. Tell your mom you're going to the mall and go get some help. You can also find support groups online for depression. Talking to other people may help.

I suffered from major depression. Here are some books that helped me: You Can Be Happy No Matter What by Richard Carlson and You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay.

Well, this may sound odd, but find your "happy place." Whether it be a sport or a friends house or even just reading a book, just try to do the things you like best. If you think this is really a serious matter just consult with your pediatrition or convince your mother that it is something you really are concerned about.

Talk to a doctor or even your school nurse about anti-depressents. They really do help. Depression isn't all emotional, it's a chemical disorder. Anti-depressents can help with that
