Exactly what I've always wondered, and one of the main reasons why even if for some reason I did believe in god, I could never follow any of the organized religions.

The Christian Bible does NOT teach these things. As a matter of fact, the teachings were revolutionary in the days of the Bible as it elevated women to the standard of being equal.
Now a days however, there is a tendency among people to read the scriptures with our own culture in mind, to read them ethnocentrically. This will result in misunderstanding.
What throws people off is they also do not recognize the difference between Equality, and the ROLES given to the different sexes. The ROLES are different, NOT the importance, and there is no difference as far as God is concerned other than the ROLES.
But there are many different theologies out there now in our time that would challenge and change our God-given roles. Be very careful who you listen to...I think we all would like very much to see you succeed in gaining greater knowledge!

I don;t know what you have been reading or who you have been taking to but the bible dos not promote abusing woman or children. Read Ephesians 5:22-32 , 1 Peter 3:1-7 . I what you to look at vers 7 " Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. That vers was out of the NIV Bible.

I have been told that it is the women of Catholicism (for an example), who refuse to let go of their religion. These same Catholic women have told me that if they don't believe in it, then who will?
I'm not sure I understand what those Catholic women are referring to, but it makes more sense to me to let Catholicism be upheld by the men. After all, when all the men die, Catholicism would then be gone with them. And, so all the pediphile priests would not have a safe haven.
To me, the Catholic women are the worst, because if they just once realized that their religion encouraged the rape of innocent boys, then they would begin to understand that what they do by "believing so that someone will" might be considered criminal. The question I have is: how can these women live with themselves, knowing what is the truth?

The Bible does not teach a man to abuse his wife or his children. In fact, Jesus said that any person that offends any child would be better off to have a millstone hung around their neck and drowned in the depths of the sea. In case you don't know, a millstone is huge weighs a lot more than any person does.

Paul taught men that they should love their wives. Men are taught to leave their parents and cleave which means to hold on to and be faithful to her. Not abuse her.

Actually Scripture says that in Christ there is neither male nor female. All are equal.

You have not read or have not understood Scripture correctly. To understand, you must be Spirit filled. To be Spirit filled, you must be saved.

We are equal. We (both genders) have roles that when used according to God's design, compliment one another. To understand it, you (aside from the above) you need to study the curse brought about by Adam, Eve, and the serpent.
