NO!

You only need street smarts - don't flash your wallet/money/jewelry, and keep it where your pocket cannot be picked. Women, keep pocketbook close and closed. Don't bump into people, if possible.

The subway is safe, cheap, and entertaining! We love riding them and listening to all the different languages being spoken. We love the singers and bands that perform in the stations and on the trains. An unlimited Metrocard for 7 days of riding is only $24.00. Quite a bargain!

What?!? That is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard. NYC has a bad rap. It really is a pretty safe place to be. I ride the subway all the time and it is totally safe. Don't believe everything you hear.

thats not true! the subways are really safe, but just try not to stare at anybody for longer than 2 seconds- some people get really mad- then it can get a little scary. enjoy your ride!
