Well 1st of all Ford is not bringing back the Taurus. (You should actually READ the link you supplied)
They are bringing back the NAME Taurus.
Secondly, American car companies are not a joke. Do you have any idea of how the American auto companies affect the economy of America?
I'm not talking about just the factory workers at any given car manufacturer.
I'm suggesting that you think about ALL the MANY MANY other employees of the MANY MANY MANY suppliers to the auto industry.
My brother lost his job last year due to downsizing at a company that supplies transmission parts to (mainly) Ford & GM.
Where does your brother, sister, friend or nieghbor work?
My brother took a lesser paying job & had to sell his house.
The American Auto industry will affect the QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE. So bash them if you like........& support the economy of Foreign countries if that is your perogative.
Profits will go to the HOMELAND of the manufacturer, regardless.
I prefer to support American!
American Auto manufacturers do more this country than just build cars!
I'll give you just a couple of examples:

I could go on, but I won't.
Oh but just one more question....Have you ever heard of the Ford Foundation? I don't mean Ford Motor Co. ...I mean the charitable organization created by Henry & Edsel Ford in 1936, their way of giving back to those in need.
You can read about it here:

They are talking about changing the name of the Ford 500 to the Taurus; that's all. The Ford 500 isn't selling well, so they're thinking that it will help with sales. I'm sorry, but it still won't help. If you go test drive a Ford 500, an Acura TL, Infiniti G35 sedan, Audi A4, etc etc, you'll find that the Ford is left behind in the dust. In every respect. If you've got some money and you're thinking about buying an entry-level luxury sedan, the Ford just isn't worth your time. My family's owned an Audi A4 & TT, Infiniti G35, Honda S2000, Mercedes C, BMW 3, Volvo avant, Volkswagen Passat & Jetta....I can tell you from experience domestic's just can't match them. I've had friends with Chevys, Fords, Buicks, Pontiacs, Caddys...all you have to do is sit in them and you can see the quality just isn't there. I have a friend who was about to purchase a new Escalade because he honestly thought that's what the height of luxury is. I managed to have him test drive a BMW X5, Audi S4, Lexus GS, Acura TL, and even a Land Rover. He later said to me, "I had no idea! Why hadn't anyone told me about these other cars before! Everyone always talks about Escalades and Ford Trucks and Dodge HEMIs. They don't know what they're missing!" He ended up not only purchasing the Audi S4, but he didn't even want an SUV anymore! He got the Avant (wagon) instead (for the kids). He says he can drop the kids off at school, take the dog out in the back, and then blast it around the back-roads. He told me he's never seen quality like that (the S4) in any domestic car he's ever driven. I don't know, but even though American car companies are starting to turn around, they're too far behind for it to do much good anytime soon. What do you guys think?

As far as I am aware, the Taurus was discontinued in 2005. I don't see them bringing it back a year later. I am unsure of your source but would be curious to hear more if I am wrong.
I think it is noteworthy that the Ford Taurus was one of the best selling cars in American auto manufacturing history. (The Explorer is another international Ford success) It is true that the design got a little bland at the end but consider that Chrysler brought the 300 back from the grave and it is going from strength to strength. Dodge has the charger which was a bit of a joke in the 70's but sells very well today. Anything can be salvaged with improved technology as long as there is demand. I think the two prior examples demonstrate that there is ample demand for American cars out there. (Also note the Camaro and Mustang)
American (Note the capital A) car companies are catching up to their counterparts. Regardless of what they do, Americans will always whine about how a Ford Taurus and a Camry are not equal. But rmrmber that the Camry cost a lot less to make b/c labor is cheaper over there.
I suggest you stick to your toyota corrolla (little t, little c) or whatever rice burner you drive and look down on the rest of us to your hearts content. We'll continue to support our economy along with the help of Asian business execs who apparently prefer Towncars and Devilles to Camry's and Accord's based on the export numbers and demand for those fine american vehicles.

Mustang, Taurus, and Explorer are the three most recognizeable nameplates for Ford for the past 2 decades. More for the Mustang.
It makes perfect business sense to resurrect the Taurus nameplate that Ford has spent so much money on its brand. The Five Hundred is barely known.

heck if everyone is on the bandwagon to build old cars why not take the tooling to build the bodies the old way and put new motor ,trans, emission crap and leave the bodies the same. chrome , wheel covers etc.. goodmark is now doing it with the 69 camaro completely new sheetmetal but once painted you cant tell if its a 69 or 2006 model. why not do it with classics 55-57 chevy 60's vettes, 65-70 mustangs, gremlins, pacers, javelins, cudas, who cares about depleating values of the originals. once the hood is lifted they'll see the new drivetrain and know its not a 60's model. but all of us who were born too late or were in the 60's but couldnt afford one . now we want to re-live our memories.

The taurus is american. I wish it well, but it can't compete with Japan. I'm sorry, but it's true.
