I love the term dry bar in your description. It is almost exactly what they are. Its amusing that every question about this cult brings in Mr. Pack here. Well, Ted, its funny that on the 'religions' (term used loosely) website they even have a disclaimer by your description of the beliefs. Pack does a lot of generalizing in that description, and a whole lot more justification of their belief-system, another term i use loose as hell.

oh, speaking of that, they dont believe in hell.... so they are not accountable for the wrongs they do.... very convenient..... and very liberal too, which is to be expected, as you pointed out. in my opinion, its the church of the doctrine of the aclu.

i have no doubt pack and his pack are good people, and productive human beings, but the downfall is that they have an opportunity to spread salvation, and they dont. under the ammendments to our constitution they, and other similar sects of spirituality have that right, but its odd yahoo features them and seems to support the draw of this congregation, which they would never do for a christian gung-ho believer. now thats hypocracy. just like when pack quotes matthew in his post here. who says that verse has any justification? if you dont believe in titus 3-5, romans 3-23, or john 3-16, why buy that one? because it fits the pre determined criteria they support. more typical liberal crap. he has claimed to be an agnostic, but then says nobody is going to convert him. say what?

we all know why you guys decided to suddenly come up with a 'doctrine' or belief sytem about 20 years ago.... and its only for one reason, to be eligible by governmental standards for the tax exempt status of a church. and by the way, nobody is trying to convert, the guy asked a question, pack. answer it and spare us the hub-bub....

we do not "deny" some thing, yet do ask for some variety of evidence in case you anticipate to sway us. We do trust that each and each and every truly one of creation is because the author meant, and that we are all part of that reason, without pick to be delivered in less than rituals or resources. the international does no longer pick to be saved or altered to earn the affection of the single which created it. that is the basis of Unitarianism and Universalism, and it truly is the reason they mixed interior the '60s. My extremely short version is that united statesare: different human beings determining on to go back together in community to help values & concepts which will make this international extra perfect. The longer version of what united statestrust is: There are seven concepts which Unitarian Universalist congregations verify and promote: * The inherent well worth and dignity of each and every human being; * Justice, fairness and compassion in human kinfolk; * attractiveness of one yet another and encouragement to religious improve in our congregations; * A loose and accountable seek for for reality and meaning; * the right of moral experience and using the democratic procedure interior of our congregations and in society at large; * The purpose of international community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; * appreciate for the interdependent internet of all existence of which we are an element. we are no longer a Cult, because all we ask you to trust is reported above. there is not any superstition, and we can't inform you that your superstitions are incorrect, see you later as they promote a positive international view. even as many united statesare politically lively, we do not push politics, in common words recommendations about how the international should be. the way you help benefit that international is as a lot as you. we are accepting of absolutely everyone, only as they're, yet it really is is what community and faith are meant to be about. We do inform you you're undesirable, or evil. We only have a view of what we pick interior the international, and ask you to assist us convey it about.

We worship truth and honesty. We don't believe the Bible is 100% true. Neither do the Christians, for that matter. This is from Matthew 6:

"5": And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

"6": But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

"7": But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

How many Christians have you seen praying aloud, outside of closets - on national TV, for instance? How about repeating themselves? You folks pick and choose which verses to believe. So do we. A book can be great - inspired and inspiring, even - without being 100% true.

If you want to make fun of us, go ahead. Garrison Keilor does a better job of it, though. He is a trained professional and the world's tallest radio comedian. If you want to convince us to convert, get real. We are as likely to convert as you are, which is to say VERY unlikely. If you are curious, go to a Sunday Service.

If you don't want to go to a Sunday Service but you'd like to know what we talk about,

I'm a sixth generation Unitarian Universalist. Let's start with the basics. Our principles and purposes, taken from the UUA web site.

>>>

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote

* The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
* Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
* Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
* A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
* The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
* The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
* Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

The living tradition which we share draws from many sources:

* Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
* Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion and the transforming power of love;
* Wisdom from the world's religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
* Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
* Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit;
* Spiritual teachings of Earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.

Grateful for the religious pluralism which enriches and ennobles our faith, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and expand our vision. As free congregations we enter into this covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.

The Purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association

The Unitarian Universalist Association shall devote its resources to and exercise its corporate powers for religious, educational and humanitarian purposes. The primary purpose of the Association is to serve the needs of its member congregations, organize new congregations, extend and strengthen Unitarian Universalist institutions and implement its principles.

The Association declares and affirms its special responsibility, and that of its member congregations and organizations, to promote the full participation of persons in all of its and their activities and in the full range of human endeavor without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, disability, affectional or sexual orientation, age, language, citizenship status, economic status, or national origin and without requiring adherence to any particular interpretation of religion or to any particular religious belief or creed.

Nothing herein shall be deemed to infringe upon the individual freedom of belief which is inherent in the Universalist and Unitarian heritages or to conflict with any statement of purpose, covenant, or bond of union used by any congregation unless such is used as a creedal test.

Now if what you mean is that we don't have something to fear, some all powerful, retributional, omnipotent, insecure, cosmic entity that seeks to punish us for our transgressions, then you are right.

We call ourselves liberals, because we try to look at and consider all sides of an issue before making our decisions and leave ourselves open to other viewpoints. We have many members who would be considered politically, financially or morally conservative, but are still religious liberals. I hope you're not allowing yourself to be taken in by the the popular misconception that liberal means permissive.

We are actually one of the most difficult denominations to follow because we are charged with responsibility for our own spiritual life and for continuing to search out truth, where ever it may be found.
