Men wrote it

1 Corinthians is written to the church in corinth. These are gentiles who were not versed in the laws of Moses. Women back then were not even taught to read. The entire chapter is concerning ORDER in the church. The Corinthians were famous for the worship of diana and temple orgies. There was many things wrong at cornith which Paul addressed.

The Bible teaches that in Christ, we are all equal. I'm will have to do some research to give the exact quote. When Reading the Bible, you have to remember who the letter is being addressed too.

Of course today, women speak in church all the time. In the new testament, much responsibility is put on the TEACHER of God's word.

1 Corinthian 14 - not allowed to interrupt church with speaking in tongues

1 Timothy 2 - don't exploit feminine charm in dressing or try to make other women jealous or keep the men distracted from their worship. Keep silent and be subject to the church leaders

The bible supports women - Deborah was a judge. Quite a few women were prophetesses.

Women are not to rule over their husbands. They are to submit to their husbands and he is to submit to the Lord. Our God is an orderly God. This doesn't belittle the woman, it protects her. Mary was given the greatest right of all and that was to bring forth our Lord at birth. That should have made up for David and Samson and Abraham.

These Verses are dealing with the behavior in church according to Jewish teaching. Tradition is not the Law we have to keep by God's orders. Tradition changes. The Bible supports women in many ways. A wrong understanding of the biblical "family headship" makes ppl think women have less rights.

In the time that these passages were written, women were still in a 2nd class citizen mode in most mid east countries. This is still the case in many of those same cultures. They were considered property more than people. In this particular instance, this passage is being written by someone who is true to that reasoning. At the time, women were not educated in religion as they are today so would not have anything to say more or less. Remember that although the apostles who wrote these books were students of Christ or of the original diciples, they are still human and write from a human perspective. In the four gospels that told of the life of Christ (many times as direct quotes from Jesus), he on the other hand treated women very well and was very supportive and respectful of them.

this passage is for the church that had new people and was having difficulties with women who did not have husbands to ask questions of and in the notes it said alot of these women were prostitutes associated with pagan religions 1Corn 14 and the 1Tim 2 it is given you an understanding of what you should do as far as women who want to be as a male and but women who have husbands are subjected to their husbands authority and should be a submissive person with the authority of her husband and then the Lord on her head so that she is covered from public disgrace. All women are supported by the gospel and Jesus saved women and the children just the same as men. But men were more publicly seen in those days and if a women was out by her self it was a dishonor to her family which is the notes version so a woman should put the thought of honor in her mind before being seen in public and then the thought of the Lord. But my how times have changed So yes the Bible does support women as well as men but as women we are held to eve's sin and should honor our man's rules before our own and as far as the jewelry and braids go this was the beauty parlor for them back then and women should cloth themselves with obedience before gems and makeup

Read about the proverbs 31 woman and come back. She had her own business, ran the household, took care of the money and her husband was the envy of every other husband out there.

verse 34women should remain silent in the churches.

This is in regards to women speaking in church. This has nothing to do with the rights of woman. It is PROVEN that women are emotional. A woman is much more likely to speak out of emotion than a man. A husband is required to take care of his wife, and not to lead her astray. Therefore, if a woman has a question, she should discuss it with her husband so that she doesnt say something that could be misconstrued.

Men are held accountable much more so than women in the bible.

Actually the Bible did an astounding job of supportint women's rights...in that age. Reading our current stardards back into that era is like trying to read a Ferrari back to Joseph and Mary's trip to Bethlehem.
Miriam was an early prophetess as was Deborah.
Sarah and Rachel were adopted as sisters before they were married - an elite status in the society in which they belonged.
Philip the deacon had 7 daughters all of whom held the title of prophetess.
Jesus offered the radical idea that men as well as women would be liable to the charge of idolatry.
Women rape victims, war booty, ahd sold brides were given rights far beyond those of the surrounding society/times.
Sadly, neither the level of comprehension or social structure offered the abilities we now enjoy in terms of ERA or OSHA etc.

At the time, women were considered unequal. Remember this was a patriarchal society, with strict ideas of what the roles of women and men were. I think that the Epistles were written to reflect the times.

The Qur'an more specifically addressed the issues of women's rights, making it forbidden to kill female infants, insuring the rights of a woman to property and child support, among other things.

I have always thought of Jesus as a champion for woman and children. The custom of the day was not to bother with certain woman, not to even speak to them. Christ did all of that and went further to befriend them. He was loving to little kids and rebuked his disciples for not allowing children to come to Him. The first ones to see the resurrected Jesus were woman. Women played some dominate roles in the Biblical days and have been used by God to bring about His will.
