They want to ban the exhibition of one of the best preserved examples of prehistoric man in that country. I guess they don't believe that scientific truth will set them free.

Certainly the Kenyan bishops don't want anyone set free. There aren't enough jobs running elevators in Kenya to employ all the clerics that would lose their jobs if the country went atheist.

"Earth not the center of the universe! Heresy! Heliocentrism is killing our faith!!"

Taylor: "There's your Minister of Science; honor-bound to expand the frontiers of knowledge..."
Dr. Zira: "Taylor, please!"
Taylor: "Except that he's also Chief Defender of the Faith."
Dr. Zaius: "There is no contradiction between faith and science... true science."

Edit: Fortunately, not all Christians consider scientific discoveries to be a danger to their faith. Dr. Emma Mbua, the head of paleontology at the museum in Kenya that is preparing to display the fossils of Turkana Boy, is a Protestant. "Evolution is a fact, and Turkana Boy is our jewel," she said. "For the first time, we will be taking him out of the strong room and showing our heritage to the world." Some are still interested in the truth.

If these people truly have faith, they shouldn't feel the need to ban something that contradicts their beliefs. This shows weakness and possible self-doubt. Their faith should reach beyond reason and hard fact. It always has before. If their faith is waivering over this they may need to re-evaluate their religious convictions.

Faith: unflaggin trust; belief WITHOUT FIRM PROOF!!!!

Evolution may be killing the faith of sects whose personal, unauthoritative interpretations of the Bible contradict scientific truth. But it is having no effect on the faith of most Christians, who are able to accept both genuine biblical truth and genuine scientific truth, which can never conflict.

True Christian faith will survive amongst all trials. No censorship is required. Evolution does not kill the faith of the truly faithful. Trial, when overcome, just make us stronger.

Religion requires censorship of the acceptance of ideas in order to survive.

And, its own actions show it can't survive without murdering adherents of other religions.

The Church took a strong stand against Copernicus and Galileo too. But eventually people realized that not every word of the Bible is intended to be a science textbook. The Church will come through this too.

There is nothing, NOTHING that tells us that Science and Christianity have to be poles apart. There's NO reason they need to contradict each other. They go hand in hand. God gave us science and He gave us brains to think with, because He wants us to grow and He wants us to learn about His world. He also wants us to TAKE CARE OF HIS WORLD. This means that we need to explore and learn as many scientific truths as we can. Scientific truths we may find today, may not be so true in another 20 years. They are not absolute, and we are learning new things daily.

Anybody who thinks otherwise is just doing it wrong.
