Rehabilitation is a treatment, not a cure. If the disease is alcoholism or drug abuse, there is no cure. Rehab teaches you how to deal with cravings and put them away so that a person can function normally in society, but they are not cured.

They have to want to stop using before rehab will help. If they are being court ordered or family forced into rehab, then it may not help at all. If they still want to get high or drunk, believe me they will.
You can't force someone to get clean. You can support them and encourage their recovery. But getting there is up to them.
After leaving rehab the person needs to learn to live again on the outside world. Which means a lot of changes. Old friends have to go and new ones made. Ones that will be positive support. The person really needs to have the desire to be healthy again.

I don't consider Rehab a cure as such: It's more a way to build one's self back up again after having been ill.
But if you mean rehab for a drug dependancy, then your loved one is going to need a considerably more agressive treatment.

no rehab is not a cure, however, it can be a lot of help. what is gonna determine the outcome is the person. Are they ready to deal with thoer problem or are they not? is this person ready to work to get better or not? if they are then they will change, with help, if they arent then no change will happen. but they will need support and help. if rehab isnt working then your loved one is not ready.

of course there is. it's called desire. you can go to the best rehab centre but if you don't want it (to be well), it won't happen. i'm not saying it's easy once you decide to get well, but you have to want it in order to get there.
it's a two way street. you must focus on how one got to the place of addiction, not only the addiction itself.
and of course, keeping in touch and checking in periodically. follow up and follow thru is key to staying well.

an intervention from family and loved ones, showing her how much you care may change her mind.
