When I split with my ex...?

(Bit of a long one Sorry!)
I started talking to my best mate again-I was banned he's male- and my ex came into the pub where I work and punched him and told him "didn't take long for you to come sniffing round."
It isn't like that between me an my mate! Any way we agreed to let the dust settle and then meet up again.

We were ment to meet up this month and have been texting each other. We were going out this weekend but my brothers got a gig-my best mate wont come cos I used to work there.
I found out last week my ex went around telling people the break-up was down to my best mate-lies!
Me an my best mate fell out the other day cos after all this happened he went into hideing and because of this no one bothered to mention it to me so I didn't have a chance to defend our situation.
Now he's blaming me that we cant go out because of all the gossips!
How can I fix this situation. My best mate can be over sensitive and dramatic. We're now not talkin cos a stupid row.

You should speak to your ex first and try and find out why hes spreading lies, and make him realise that he has no right to tell you who you can and cant be friends with. Then you need to speak to your mate and sort things out with him. If he feels uncomfortable going out to your usual places then go somewhere else, somewhere your ex isnt likely to show up. Make sure everyone else knows that you didnt split up with your ex because of your best mate and confront whoever else has been spreading rumours. You and your best mate should go out with your heads held high, neither of you have done anything wrong. If anyone should be ashamed, it should be your ex
