This is one of the most heartbreaking passages in the Word of God!

I can't tell you how much sorrow and grief it brings to my heart!

You have directed us to the story of Lazarus and The Rich Man. Are you asking if we can't take this chance as in not spreading the word of the Gospel of Christ to others? What he is saying is that even some people will not believe in God and heaven even if someone is sent to them from heaven to tell them of the reality of heaven and hell. It is a fact that you cannot force others even family into believing in Christ, heaven, or hell. All you can do is plant the seed and hope that it bears fruit. We are not charged with "convincing" others to be saved. We as Christians are charged with spreading the word of God. Some of the seed will fall on fertile soil and some of it won't.

Miracles do not convert people. Only the Holy Spirit converts people. No matter what miracles may happen, that does not imply conversion. Jesus is the perfect example. He raised people from the dead. But instead of believing, many people saw Him as a political threat rather than the Messiah they had been waiting for. On one occasion, He healed a person's withered hand. Instead of being in awe of his power, the leaders of the time were outraged because he did in on the sabbath.

Seeing is not believing. Believing is seeing.

We are Bible-toting Christians who have the benefit of the Old Testament AND the New. If we don't notice and minister to the poor, what excuse will we have? In the final analysis, the rich man's punishment is not for riches, but for neglect of the scriptures and what they teach.

That doesn't mean we should give out of guilt or give unwisely or give to whoever cries the loudest. Instead, we are to give out of the love of God within us. Not selfishly to assuage our guilt, but selflessly to care for someone else's need.

The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus is about money, all right. Money and wealth and self-centeredness. And mercy. It is especially a parable about mercy -- mercy now!

God Bless You

If I told you my great grandfather rose from the dead the other day, would you believe me?

No?

So why the hell should I believe the word of ancient ignorant goat herders who believed the world was flat, and sea monsters roamed the oceans?

You get right to work on that reviving the dead thing. When you've got it down to the point I can put a body in front of you and you can resurrect it with little more than a touch, we can discuss my reaction to it.
