I am a full on supporter of the nazi weapon quality and fire power and i love the king tiger as a tank it was heavy and often sank in the mud but in narrow german streets it was undefeatable. It also accounted for the 1 sherman firefly per 4 tank squad so the americans had a slight chance of defeating this giant and with its 120 mm cannon it easily wiped away allied tank divisions single handidly! now you're oppinion?

Recently saw a tank comparison onn TV.
The the answer was we may never know.
The best tanks were the British Challenger & US Abrams series.
Since we're allies not much chance of a shootout unless we keep killing Brits in friendly fire action in Iraq.

No tiger ever mounted a 120mm gun the jagdkingtiger mounted a 128mm but never went into full production. All other tigers mounted various caliber 88mm guns. As for the 5 Sherman's to one tiger you are quite correct. as to your belief that a tiger was undefeatable on a city street it is complete bunk. The tank can only attack whats in front of it because the gun is so long it can't turn around. So infantry using the buildings for cover could plant demo charges or hit it in the back with a bazooka and knock it out. These tanks preferred the open country of Russia and the desert. The Firefly never mounted a big gun neither It fired a 76.2mm round know as a 77mm to prevent mix ups in the supply areas. I know of the tiger that beat up a tank division all by itself until infantry hunted it down and killed it with a bazooka. As for the best tank I would have to say the T-34/85 this tank could go toe to toe with the German giants and still come out on top. it also was much more reliable and could be massed produced in huge numbers which it was and is still in use in some third world countries. But if I was a tanker in WW2 I would like to be in a tiger1 it was reliable enough and the armor was good enough for me. Though it was a pain to move long distance.

The Wehrmacht beat up on Europe with light, maneuverable tanks and lost badly with heavy, powerful ones (that spent a lot of time down for repairs). How good is a tank that's only good in perfect conditions, and then only half the time?
Of the tanks in WW II, the T34/85 commander's tank was probably the best.
Comparing the current American, British and German MBT's (and maybe the French, too) is a great way to start an argument, and I'm happy there's no chance to compare them in combat.

M1Abrams, Challenger, L'Clair (sp), T-90S, Merkava Mk 4.....I'd say the latest model of Leopard II Main Battle Tank.

Abrams are fast, T-90s and Leclerc are faster. Merkava 3&4 are faster offroad.

All modern tanks can hit moving targets while they're moving. Leclerc and Merkava4 can do it even better through FCS-integrated autotracker and T-90 even much better through bore-launched ATGMs.

German Rh120mm/L55 tungsten, israeli-improved 120mm GIAT tungsten and russian 125mm BM-44 U-Ni-Zn-alloy rounds have the same power through higher velocity (1750-1800 m/s instead of Abrams 1650 m/s)

And in HEAT-rounds soviets always led anyway, their new tandem charge HEAT-round with DU-liner has 800mm RHA-penetration.

I think, what gives me the choice of Leopard, besides the german history of good tank design, is their ability to deploy infra-decoys and smoke screens to hide from enemy tanks and heat seeking missiles.

I like the Leopard II...the latest model is the Leopard 2A6EX (German).

The Centurion, was the main battle tank of armies all over the world and is considered one of the most successful tank designs ever. designed shortly during world war two, it was far better than US or Russian tanks during the korean war and some were still in service last year (all bee it very modified) with the Isreali army

Merkava is the best tank ever made, only MBT to actually be able to carry troops. Not a bad tank at all.
