If you take a saline based laxative you will flush everything out right good! Before having a sigmoidoscopy I had to take that stuff with water. And not to be gross - but it was the first time I ever cwapped out brown water. And then about an hour or two later I was cwappin out clear water. I was thinking this might be a good solution for you because you don't want a lot of pressure building up around that neighborhood that's just been traumatized by passing a baby! If you take the PhosphoSoda (URL below) - be sure to hang out near a toilet for a few hours.
Hey...congratulations on your baby!!

Go buy a huge bottle of Benefiber, and a bottle of Colace. You'll pay around $50 bucks for both, but it's worth it!!! I put the fiber in everything. It completely dissolves in water with no taste! I love it. And, as for the Colace, you can take up to 3 a day, 1 at a time or however you want. I suggest taking 3 right away with a whole bottle of fiber-filled water when you get home. And follow it with another bottle of fiber-filled water. Take 3 more the next morning, and by the end of the day or the following morning, you should be better. Trust me...I know all about this:) Oh, and prunes/prune juice is so nasty and takes too long, listen to me, I know what's up!!

I've so been there. If you are not nursing the baby then you can take a stool softener/laxative like Dulcolax. If you are nursing, talk to your doctor's office about what medications you can take. Either way, you should drink lots of water, and eat high-fiber foods like beans, whole wheat bread, whole-grain cereal or oatmeal, fruits and vegetables Try to get a little exercise every day - a 20-minute walk pushing a stroller is fine - that will help "get things moving" too. Hope it gets better, sweetie.

Get a suppository at the drug store, that will loosen the hardened stool and get things moving. You should have a bowel movement within 2 days of having a baby. Don't worry, it won't hurt. I thought it would too but it doesn't.
Be careful about the foods you take. Hopefully you're breastfeeding and everything you eat is transferred to your baby. Drink lots and lots of water, eats lots of healthy oils like olive oil, hummus, and eat green leafy veggies. Get moving, too. Walking will help.
Good luck!

1.) Drink Plenty of Water (that is the best thing for constipation)
2.) Go for afternoon walks with the baby
3.)I don't know if you like Sauerkraut, but this will do the trick for sure..anything high in fiber will work...Raisin Brain for Breakfast...
4.) Stay away from Chocolate, Bananas, White Breads and Chesses since these things will constipate you even more..

The best natural remedy I've found is Benefiber. I like the powder and you can put it in any soft food (but nothing with carbonation) and follow the directions.
I like it better than a laxative because even those sometimes say gentle and they are anything but.
This works slowly and is something your body needs anyway.
Be sure and drink plenty of water.

I think the least harsh medicine, is something natural like milk of magnesia. I would also eat fruits and stay hydrated, so that you bowel movements are soft as to not cause you anymore pain.

you can eat a lot of prunes and lots of high fiber foods. They make laxitive drinks, like fiberblend and what not. It tastes like chalk but it works. truth be told its probabily a mental thing more than anything.
