Why would you? The natural oils in a cats skin/fur is what keeps it healthy. Plus they bathe themselves very well. I have four cats ranging from 8-22 years of age and never had a bath. My vet tells me I have some of the cleanest healthiest well tempered cats of all of his clients.

Cats are not like dogs. They really dont get smelly and dirty as much. Cats bathe themselves anyway. Unless the cat is very dirty I would not give him/her a bath.
If you do end up doing it. I suggest you use the special tearless kitty shampoo thats out there and make sure you wear long sleeves. Your cat will most likely claw the heck out of you. Try to keep your cat as long as possible. Fill a little pan with water dont leave the water running the noise will probably frighten him. And make sure you check the water temperature that it is not too hot or too cold. If possible have someone help you. Then towel him off. No blowdrying!!! But really cats do not need baths. They spend hours licking themselves and they dont do it for nothing.

I've never bathed any cat I've ever owned (apart from when I was 4 and thought that cats actually liked baths, lets just say I got torn to shreds) Cats bathe themselves by licking. If however your cat is extremely dirty I suppose a sponge bath would suffice, but for the most part..leave the cleaning to the cat.

All your life, or all your cat's life, whichever comes first. Cats do not need baths unless they get themselves into something really extreme, which they are usually smart enough to avoid. Bathing cats is both abusive and risky.

Usually cat baths are only necessary to stop a flea infestation or clean the cat after it got into a mess. Otherwise the cat should care for itself by licking its fur regularly. Cats usually only neglect their fur if they are very young, sick or extremely overweight.
Many flea shampoos are available at pet stores as well as many other products to kill fleas. After you give the cat a flea bath you could have your cat wear a flea collar (break away is the safest) to discourage fleas in the future.
If you talk to a vet you can usually get flea treatments for your cat, you may have to take the cat in though.
Good luck

in many cases conversing cats shop themselves extraordinarily sparkling. lots of the time proprietors do it simply by fact they have the misunderstanding that it relatively is mandatory, yet have faith me it relatively is not. the 1st ingredient is that cats sparkling themselves, secondly if there's a lot of airborne dirt and dirt, airborne dirt and dirt or debris in the fur you may brush the hair with a cord grooming brush. this might distribute the organic oils, rubdown the floor, and it feels relatively stable to the cat. Baths could take transport of on condition that there are components that won't be able to be bumped off via those different methods. that would contain, oil, tar, discomfort, airborne dirt and dirt, skunk oil, and so on... Brushing your cat with a cord grooming brush time-honored will do wonders.

You should give a cat a bath, they clean themselves. Unless you want that cat to hate you, I suggest you avoid it as long as you can

I hope your insurance is paid up. lol
You really shouldn't bathe a cat, when you do you remove all the natural oils that keep there skin and fur in good condition. If you really feel it is necessary I suggest that you get a dry shampoo from the vet, and save your hands and forearms some major clawing.

Good Luck
Eric.

Forever, lol. There's no reason to give a cat a bath unless they get into something that would harm them if they licked it off of themselves.

I've owned many cats over the last 30 years, never bathed one of them. Therefore, I have no scars, lol.

Unless the cat has something on its fur that will injure it if it tries to lick it off, leave it alone. The cat will keep itself clean just fine. The exception would be if it has something like motor oil, for example. And then you better expect to have a very upset cat on your hands. They may claw, scratch, or bite to get away from you. Trust me on this - some WILL DO THIS, even if they are the most gentle animal otherwise.
