This is one of many popular health myths. The meaning of the word "toxin" has changed over the years. Scientifically the word toxin refers to a chemical substance produced by a living organism that causes harm in another living organism. The most commonly known toxins are poisonous snake venom and toxins produced by microbes such as tetanus. Today, the word "toxin" is often applied to any toxic substances. Toxic substances not of biological origin are more properly termed poisons.

We are exposed to many toxic substances on a daily basis, but usually in such small amounts to not cause a problem. There are many websites and so-called health practitioners that make all sorts of unsubstantiated claims into scaring people into buying their books or other products designed to "detoxify" your body, when all they are doing is "demoneifying" your wallet.

Obviously there are poisons to be avoided such as lead or carbon monoxide. But most so-called toxins are readily handled by our livers and kidneys.

I know that this info will be "thumbs-downed" by many, but there is no proven scientific data supporting the claims by those folks in the alternative medical community.

There are many websites that make all sorts of claims and even have "scientific proof." These claims are usually what are called "anecdotal," withour any real scientific evidence.

I do have an open mind, but call me the Cuba Gooding of health care - "just show me the science," then I'll become a believer.

The "detox diet" link below may prove useful to you.

Hope this helps.

Lots and Lots of water, green tea, and green leafy veggies are a great way to get rid of toxins. Another good way is by sweating. Do vigorous exersize every single day for about 45 minutes and you'll release lots of toxins. Finally, massage therapy can release tons of toxins in your body by manipulating the lymphatic system.

Do all of the above and you'll be clean as a whistle in a few weeks!

What toxins are you talking about? Unless you are actually taking in poisonous or toxic substances (like tobacco), the chance you have any significant "toxins" in your body are fairly slim. Colonics', detoxifing supplements, tea and diets are largely a scam based on bogus science. On the other hand eating a well balance diet with lots of fruits and vegetables (vitamins, fiber and anti-oxidants) and regular exercise are always good ideas, whether they "detoxify" you or not.

Drink loads of water to flush them out.

Have lots of anti-oxidents (found in berries, etc) or take a supplement.

You can also have colonic irrigation.
