when the dr. who was going to administer it heard that I smoke pot, she said I would be better off trying some other medicines on a lower dosage. My regular shrink had been trying to get me to increase me dosages - I refused because I knew they weren't working. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Find another doctor. EST is an unproven therapy. No one really knows how or even IF it works.

What doses did your shrink want to increase? If they aren't working maybe it is because the dose is too low?

Are you suffering from depression? Is that why they want to do this?

EST is known to cause memory problems. It's just a risky venture for an unknown outcome.

Marijuana smoking probably isn't helping with the emotional issues you're dealing with... might consider reducing that.

That is pretty crazy.

Smoking pot can cause depression. I am suprised they would schedule you for ECT therapy when you are still smoking. Because you are basically battling the effects of pot and the effects of your meds, your mind is all whacked out.

Here are your choices:

1) Stop the psychiatric meds and just smoke pot.
2) Stop the pot and take the pyschiatric meds.
3) Stop both.

I bet you one of those choices will help you.

I never heard of it. I recommend the different medicine on the lower dosage, rather than the ECT.
