Hey look! You don't have to believe what you are told. The apostle Paul did not expect people to believe in Jesus just because he told them, but Paul reasoned with them from the scriptures. You see! The scriptures are what has the power. Not what people say the scriptures say, but just read the scriptures for yourself and believe what you believe. If in fact you read the scriptures and do not believe then so be it. If in fact you read the scriptures and believe then so be it.
Faith comes by hearing the message and the message is the word of God.
Matt

Nowhere does it say we are to abandon reason. In fact, the greatest Christians don't merely accept the Bible in a literal translation. But why is it more unreasonable to think that our universe and life was planned rather than to think that it simply appeared on its own one day? Science can not prove that the universe simply appeared anymore than I can prove that God created it. It is a matter of belief. If I am wrong, it won't matter in the long run to me. If you are wrong however, it will matter a great deal to you in the long run.

The Bible never said such a thing. Maybe you should do a but of reasoning yourself rather to believe nonsense.. If you do He who is waiting will give you life if you will ask.... Jim
Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us REASON together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool

--It never has, never does, and never will!
--You have the wrong definition of faith,(blind faith is not taught in the Bible--that is a church concept) please note, the Bibles definition of the faith of the Bible, and the many who practiced it with reason:
(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.”beheld.2 For by means of this the men of old times had witness borne to them.
3 By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God’s word, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear."
--Does not true science practice this similar faith in viewing "invisible" forces such as gravity, electro-magnetism and "perceiving of things that do not appear"(such as the effect of forces such as these.
--If you examine the rest of Hebrews 11, you will see many faithful servants of God , with some abbreviated reasons as to why they exercised the Bibles faith!
Note how reason is strongly encourged in the Bible:
(Romans 12:1) “12 Consequently I entreat YOU by the compassions of God, brothers, to present YOUR bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with YOUR power of reason.”
--Did you notice the expression "power of reason"
(James 3:17) “17 But the wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making partial distinctions, not hypocritical. . .”
--Did you note that reasonable is in company with other good qualities, that are essential in being a Christian?
(Romans 1:16-17) “. . .For I am not ashamed of the good news; it is, in fact, God’s power for salvation to everyone having faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek; 17 for in it God’s righteousness is being revealed by reason of faith and toward faith, just as it is written: “But the righteous one—by means of faith he will live.””
--Why are reason & faith in combination here if in fact the Bibles faith were blind or credulous?
--Finally note, that there is a distinction made between unreasonble practice and reasonable:
(1 Peter 2:13-15) “13Â For the Lord’s sake subject yourselves to every human creation: whether to a king as being superior 14Â or to governors as being sent by him to inflict punishment on evildoers but to praise doers of good. 15Â For so the will of God is, that by doing good YOU may muzzle the ignorant talk of the unreasonable men.”...........
18Â Let house servants be in subjection to [their] owners with all [due] fear, not only to the good and reasonable, but also to those hard to please"

Reason is the enemy of faith. Doug is right, Martin Luther said that.
The difference between our views is that he thinks the supernatural exists... I don't.

it doesn't...but Martin Luther said "Where reason advances, faith flees"
Logic doesn't explain--nor can it explain-- the supernatural.
Supernatural- "above normal"
