The best place to stay at is in the Condado region of San Juan, right on a semi-private beach. It's calles At The Windchime Inn. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with anything. There is a cute tikibar and small pool in the back of the main building, but I can promise you that you'll only go once on the entire trip. The rooms are adorable and have a very comforting feel to them. Try to book your flight and hotel with www.expedia.com as I did and for 9 nights I flew from Newark, NJ to San Juan, Puerto rico and stayed at the hotel for $600. It was great. I will never forget my favorite vacation!!

If you want to stay directly on the beach, it will be pricey. However, the Fajardo Inn is really nice and within driving distance to the great beaches in the area.

In addition, you might want to think about going to one of the islands off of Puerto Rico. Vieques has some lovely hotel options, specifically El Banana. You can snorkel, going swimming in a bioluminescent bay, and can walk the beaches all around the island, many of which are secluded.

In addition, the island of Culebra has some of the top beaches in the world, and you can find small hotels that are reasonably priced. You cannot imagine a more perfect place!

You can get to both islands from San Juan airport, or by taking a boat from Fajardo. The airplanes are small, but inexpensive, easier, and quicker.

Get a "Let's Go" travel book. I've used their suggestions and they are safe and have lead me to find many great reasonably-priced hotels around the world.

Have fun!
