pinched nerve - try physical therapy, deep tissue massage, or a TENS unit

Most likely the muscles are tight and pressing on nerves. For a full description of how to stop this kind of pain read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
Quick fix - take a swig of molasses it gives the potassium and magnesium that your body is screaming for.

Do you have asthma? Asthma can result in noise when you exhale, and I wonder if some congestion related to asthma might be putting pressure on some nerve in your neck?

Alternatively you might have a restricted artery or vessel in the area... could be many things.

Please see a doctor!

I would suggest seeing a doctor fairly soon. He will probably order a ct scan done.. painless procedure.. find out whats goin on in there. Good luck.
