I am supposed to get an expander sometime. What is it and what are some of the "effects" of it? Also, I could also get 4 braces on my front 4 teeth. Would this start straightning my teeth quicker?

an expander is put on the roof of your mouth and is connect to your teeth, and there is a key that is used to turn a notch like thing on the expander that -expands- the divice and that then expands your top jaw. you are probably getting the braces to straighten your teeth. the expander is a little bit painful when you turn the key, but it shouldnt be anything tooo painful. good luck!

The expander goes on the roof of your mouth and actually expands the roof of your mouth so that your mouth has more room to fit your teeth. If your teeth are crowded and you have a small mouth they may not be able to straighten your teeth without making more room in there for the teeth. It's a painful process but your teeth will look great when all is done.

and expander does not straightn your teeth, it made mine worse, what it does is breaks the bone thats above the roof of your mouth and makes it bigger, when that process is wider, you get braces, and the wider mouth makes it easier to straighten the teeth. This may not happen for everyone, but when i had an expander it changed my jaw line, and it looks much nicer than i used to

An expander makes a bigger space between two teeth so that the orthodontist can fit a brace there. They put it there because the space is too small.
