That's completely not true, every country--every culture has religious aspects to it developed or not....

Our country was founded for religious freedom....it makes alot of sense that it's citizens would still be exercising that freedom..
religion will never go away, it's been around since the beginning of time...
Don't be deceived and think that being religious makes you less smart then the next guy....if it's the true religion that you practice then it's quite the contrary :)

Religion is not what is wrong with our country, it's the lack of the true religion(Christianity).

The First Amendment gave us freedom from a state-sponsored religion. This meant a wide variety of religions were able to flourish and find followers. State sponsored religions in Europe made people take a different view of religion--and caused religious strife and war. For those reasons, I think many Europeans became more secular.

Even the US is slowly changing in this regard. I think that we lag Europe has to do with our history with religion and the freedom of religion and separation of church and state. I think this atmosphere allows various sects of religion to flourish where in countries with homogeneous religion start ups were discouraged and curtailed. The US has a very capitalistic take on religion. Even within Christianity people can shop around to find the flavor that gives them the most boost or comfort. Since we are tolerant even the most bizarre snake wrestling, flopping about wailing in tongues religions are given room and freedom to flourish. This obviously has good and bad sides. I do believe in allowing people to follow their hearts in regard to beliefs. I hate the idea of totalitarian governments that impose beliefs. On the other hand giving people choice doesn't mean they will choose wisely, especially if they aren't provided rigorous education and critical thinking skills. Add to this indoctrination from one generation to the next.

I did read an encouraging poll discussion that I'll post you the link for.

The USA is not so much religious as credulous and these are two different things and powered by the tax-free status of churches which are big money. Outside, the Catholics, the Episcopalians, the Jews, the Muslims, The Mormons and other recognized mainstream religions, many of them are money-making mints.

Because we're kept in a herd that is filed by race, social status, and political standing. Religion is one of the tools used to keep us that way by imposing a caste system and giving people a reason to think they're better or worse than the next guy.

A study in ancient world history will show you that as cultures developed, even through present day, mankind has been religious. It is not an American thing, it is a human thing.

Wrong? Not much.... The US is so religious because we hope for better things and strive towards them, also we are a creative nation. There is nothing more creative than religion. This is why we are the greatest nation on earth.

It just appears to be overly religious because we are all so diverse. Where else in the world can you go and enjoy the religious freedom you have here.
