Because global warming is based on average temperatures across the planet. The climate scientists are not trying to tell you that there will be no local variation. Average temperatures across the globe have been rising for many decades and especially in the last 25 years (for which the data is most trusted).

Yeah, ask that question again! What global warming?!

Earth's temperature may be rising but what cannot be said for certain is that humans are the cause for the warming.

How can anyone say there is an increase in the C02 in the atmosphere that causes the warming, when no one can say for certain the actual amount of C02?! What about the sun's role int he warming trend?

Don't fall for all the global warming hysteria! Earth's nature is volatile and it is just going through its natural cycles. There have been cooling and warming periods in earth's history, and what we are experiencing now is just one of those cycles. Not that long ago the hysteria was global cooling!!

I'm not sure that it is, especially when looking at the previous 25 years of data. How old is the earth? Global warming scientists are taking a very myopic view of the climate.

Go read State of Fear by Michael Crichton. If nothing else, it will cause you to ask more questions.

You're confusing weather (short term and local) which varies wildly and can be anything, with climate (long term average over a wide area).

And global warming will cause extremes in weather. Most places will get warmer, but some will get colder.

I love how the people above cite a science fiction author and a novel.

Here's a document with actual science and hard data:

And a few people who are just a trifle more educated and important, speaking seriously. You may not respect all of them, but surely you respect some.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."

Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford

"Global warming is already starting, and there's going to be more of it. I think there is still time to deal with global warming, but we need to act soon. Humans now control global climate, for better or worse."

James Hansen, Ph.D. climate scientist, NASA

"By mid-century, millions more poor children around the world are likely to face displacement, malnourishment, disease and even starvation unless all countries take action now to slow global warming."

Michael Oppenheimer, professor of geosciences and international affairs at Princeton University

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush

It is not happening . Here in Texas we set a new cold recode ,it was 22 deg. F. this had lasted for 100 years. the new record is 19 deg. F. If it was a steady increase we would not breaking 100 year records.
