When you have a classroom where the teacher is trying to work with kids who don't speak the language, it slows everyone down.

In addition, many of the children coming from Mexico are not up to speed in math, science, English (obviously), writing and other subjects. The Mexican kids that I work with (who don't speak much English) are generally 2 - 3 years behind in core knowledge areas. Thus, the other kids are dragged down academically.

This article explores some of the issues:
http://countrystudies.us/mexico/62.htm

In addition, economically speaking, when you have more children, there are fewer resources per child so children coming in illegally (or who have parents who come in illegally) drain the school system and bring it down.

Programs for our Gifted and Talented American children are being traded out for ESL classes for the children of illegal immigrants. French and German classes are cancelled and traded out for Spanish. This makes all of us less able to compete globally and brings the educational system down.

I also see a lot of illegals screaming at school officials (through a tax paid interpreter) saying they will sue if their little darlings are punished for fighting. There is a different mentality, among some illegals, that it's okay to assault other kids - that doesn't help either.

Finally, a lot of the illegals in our area do not purchase school supplies for their children, so not only do American citizens pay more in taxes to educate illegals, they also pay the cost of the school supplies for the illegals (they all put their supplies in together and run out 1/2 way through the year).

I'm sure there are other ways, but this has been my experience.

Mexico students may make better grades in Mexico, but the school systems in Mexico are generally not globally competitive as the U.S. schools are. Generally, in the U.S., legal citizens do better in school than do illegals (or the children of illegals) who don't speak the language. That only makes sense - if you don't speak the language it'd be hard to keep up.

The cost of educating ILLEGAL Immigrants (obviously this needs to be capitalized since you are oblivious to the meaning of the word ILLEGAL) in 2004 was 28.6 BILLION dollars (www.mnforsustain.org). That money would be better spent on LEGAL AMERICAN citizens. Instead it is wasted on law breakers who have no business reaping the rewards that they do. I am sorry for their plight in poor countries, however, it does not give them the right to disregard the laws of this country, If they are such an industrious, hard working group of people, stand up and overthrow their own government. We didn't like the way the English treated us, so we changed it. We fought for our freedom and became the United States of America. Not the United States of anybody who can sneak across and give birth to 10 illegal brats. The Hispanic Groups that are organizing the protests in the States, need to focus their energy on bettering the lives of the citizens in Mexico. They have no right to the services here. The schools are overcrowded largely in part because of (Here's that big word you have so much trouble understanding again) ILLEGAL immigrants. If they were sent packing back to where they belong, there would be 28.6 BILLION dollars more that could be used for Amercian citizens. This is greatly needed if we want the future generations to be able to compete in the global market we live in.

I said it about illegal immigrants, not Mexicans, and it has to do with sheer numbers in overcrowded schools and lack of English ability. However, if you really want to look at demographics and test scores, I don't think you will like what you find. The Asians, immigrants or not, have us all beat, but the ESL learners are at the bottom of the barrel in test scores. Check out the LAUSD system at greatschools.net.

Mexican isn't the issue. There are reasons we have limits on immigration of poor people, and when those limits are exceeded, the schools are one of the first places you will see the affects.

If there weren't so many here, more of our kids could learn calculus in high school, too. I am saying they are ruining OUR schools by coming illegally and draining the funds we pay to educate our own children. I am not saying anything about the largely PRIVATE schools in Mexico.

But those that come here are severely impoverished and have had little access to Mexico's schools. They have to learn English and so do their parents in order to communicate and start all over. This is true of any inverse racial group the same argument occurred when the "boat people" from Cambodia came seeking refuge. It put our school dollars at risk because funds and classes have to be created to serve this special group. Many people get angry because their children are often put upon to serve as tutor and mentor which takes away from their progressing as they should because they are playing teacher. It is a conundrum. They need to learn English to learn and pay taxes to reimburse that education but why should an American child have to have less educational opportunity to help them? That is what the real argument is all about.

your question is an easy one... I have lived in both Texas and Calf. and in both case's teachers have testified that they could not teach the class or give the class there full attention because they had to stop and make sure that the non-english speaking kids understood the work. which took time away from everyone else... BUT, one could also say that having a class clown is the same thing... in any case when you look at the numbers... areas that have a large number of non-english speaking people in them.. the health care and education systems do suffer... now what is the answer... who knows.. maybe a class that only teaches the non-english kids? or maybe an all year school so you can have both spanish and english classes?

we dont say mexicans, we say illegal immigrants that are not supposed to be here. the school systems are not equipped to handle loads of children in one classroom. when classrooms are overcrowded it draws attention from the lessons and individual students. who can say that they would actually want to be in a crowded workplace? how would u feel? wouldnt you be irritated and hot? it's the same with the classrooms. it's just uncomfortable and schools can handle but so many children at one time so the child can receieve the best learning as possible. the influx of immigrants knocks the routine of things at the school as far as the class roster, text books, and space.
300 million people are not in grades K-12 so 300 million would not be crowding schools. the 20 million illegals estimated to be here in the US are having children rapidly to stay in the US. If their child is born here, the child is a US citizen. open your eyes and go to schools in Riverdale, MD. Los Angeles, Ca, and mostly all of Texas. You will see exactly what we are talking about.

i just left school in 2001. when i go back to that school it is 75% hispanic. My junior high school which i left in 1997 is now mostly all spanish. there are now spanish teachers and the dominant language in the school is spanish. i visit there to volunteer so i know. In a matter of 6 years (at least) This proves to me that illegals are coming here by the thousands. There is no way the US is approving visa's this fast enough for an entire US community to be saturated with Hispanics in a matter of 6 years so when you say, 20 million is only a small number, no its not!!

Mexicans aren't paying for their schooling. They also hold the clases back because the little spicklets can't speak english. If your kids are so good why would you flee your great educational system to come here and pick vegetables.

The immigrant Mexican kids don't speak English so they don't make better grades and they require a lot of time to teach them English.

The Mexican families are HUGE so while most American families have 2 or 3 kids the Mexican families have many more and put a burden on the local schools.

If they are such good students in Mexico then why aren't they good students here? Maybe because they don't have to be, because they'll get the jobs and benefits regardless of education here? Being illegal in the US is making Mexican and other illegals LAZY. It is hurting their children, but all they can see is dollar signs. And the daughters are learning from their mothers that it's easier to have babies to get money rather than get an education. I do feel sorry for these children, as they seem to be losing all their values thanks to their illegal parents.
