I had this surgery done about 7 years ago, I was also pretty scared about it, but I knew it was something I had to do and had to get through it.
I honestly do not remember much. You will go to the hospital early in the morning and get some IV's put in and some little sticky patches on your head and feet so they can moniter your heartrate and things like that.
They start giving you some 'sleepy stuff' in your iv before you go in to the operating room.
The last thing I remember is them putting the sticky moniter things on my feet, after that I was asleep.
After surgery you will go in a recovery room or the ICU for a few hours depending on the extent of it. Your parents can visit you then but your on soo many pain killers you probably won't remember the first day or so.
I also had a morphine pump that I could press and med's were put in through my iv.
Honestly, it doesnt hurt that bad, you are on enough pain med's and im sure have great doc's working on you. It is hard and a rough road but you will make it! I have no restrictions now and sometimes forget I ever had the surgery, good luck!!

(the worst thing is the hospital food! blech)

HMMMM.....This has to be the toughest question I've ever come across. You are asking if getting rods put in your back will hurt?? I'm just going to take a wild guess and say that it is going to hurt. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but i think that most surgery's will hurt in some way or another. But look on the bright side. You'll be so doped up that you won't feel a thing during you surgery. Now after you surgery, there is no way to tell for sure if it will hurt or not. It could hurt a lot or not at all. You will probably feel some form of discomfort, but there are pills for that.

AHHHHH, the benifits of modern medicine are great.

I had back surgery, but I was in an amazing amount of pain to the point I couldn't sit stand or lay down without crying. I did not have rods put in my back, so to that point I am not sure. I can say that the night after my operation, I refused to stay in bed. The part that irritated my the worst was the adhesive on the bandage. It pulled and itched. If you are in bad shape then a few more days of pain should be a piece of cake for you, and you will have pain meds to manage your pain. Best of luck to you, you will do GREAT!

Hey, sorry to hear about that. But no, they will make absolute sure that it doesn't hurt during the operation. It may hurt a little bit afterward, but just take it easy and you'll be fine. Most likely, you won't have to deal with too much pain at all. Good luck!

you dont feel anything during the surgery because you will be knocked out and after they will probably have you on heavy pain killers so i wouldnt worry that much
