An atheist is a person who does not believe in any god or deity. An agnostic is a person who does not know if there is a god/deity or not - effectively, he hasn't made a decision, or feels there isn't enough evidence to support either conclusion.

Atheist means they don't believe in the concept of an omnipotent creator god or goddess.
Agnostic means they don't know one way or another if such a god exists and therefore they don't claim one opinion or the other.
