I have been reading a lot of the reviews concerning braces because I will be getting some in a few weeks. I am an adult, but metal would be fine to me. Looks is not the issue. I see a lot of people saying clear braces stain. Some people seem to be talking about invsalign and some seem to be talking about the ones that just go on the top front teeth that are visible when you smile. My question is about the SECOND ones (I think they are damon 3 or something like that). I want to know if they really do stain, look nasty after awhile, etc. I have the option of these, ceramic, and metal for the same price. Opinions on the types please. I already know what the types are, I just want to hear from someone who has actually had them.

The D3 (Damon System) Brackets that you are talking about are probably not the same ones that the other people are referring to that stain. D3 Brackets are almost brand new. They are called hybrid brackets because they are half metal and half clear. The older clear brackets that most people have had were 100% clear and may have allowed for more staining. However, unless you are a heavy coffee drinker, tea drinker, or smoker the stains on any clear bracket will be minimal. (all you have to do is brush well, lol) I have worked in orthodontics for 11 years and the Damon brackets are the best I have seen. Plus they are much smaller than older type brackets. I would strongly NOT recommend Invisalign, your result will never be perfect. There are no retainers that can move teeth as effectively as wires. Both orthodontists I have worked for began using Invisalign only later to opt out of it. Good Luck. Hope this helps

I know when I got the clear ceramics, rather tooth-colored, they warned me not to eat anything with mustard or pickles, because they would cause yellowing. Also, I know that spaghetti sauce will stain the heck out of those little elastics! If you can, get any whitening done to your teeth before you get the braces. You'll be less paranoid. I guess the natural ceramics don't show as much as you think they do, because when I got them off, someone I had worked with for a year and a half said she didn't even realize I had had braces.

Get invisalign. I had metal braces first and then clear. The clear ones stained. but the real problem with braces are others: eating can be tricky, you don't look as professional, your mouth might get irritated -inside of lips hurt- it is horrible, trust me. I had to get invisalign now after many years because my tooth moved again anyway (i didn't wear the retainers)
Most problems requiere you to keep wearing a retainer or a mouth guard (after braces or invisalign) so if you can pay for invisalign go for it.

I had clear braces for three years- they do stain. If you want to go clear, don't let that stop you. So long as you avoid sodas, coffee, and smoking, you'll be fine. If you're like me and cannot give up coffee, I'd advise getting enamel colored braces instead. They're not as visible as metal, and they don't stain as easily as the clear kind.

The clear braces really do stain. They look horrible. I would go for invisalign if I were you.
