I have two cats, about 10 yearls old now (bro and sis). The bro is really, really big (quite fat, but not unhealthily so, says the vet...it's mostly plain old bulk) whereas the sis is really small and skinny (again, not unhealthily so). The size difference is staggering in two cats so closely related.

The thing is the sis actually eats a lot whereas the bro doesn't eat much at all.

Is this uncommon? Thanks!

Not uncommon in the slightest!

We have two cats, Timon and Pumba... Timon is a girl, Pumba a boy. They are only 18months old, but already the difference in their size is staggering! They eat about the same, but Pumba is much much bigger! When we first got them in Sept/Oct 2005 they were about the same size, but then they were only 10 weeks old, but Pumba just seemed to get bigger and bigger all the time! When we took them for their last check at the vets we were told that their size difference is totally normal...

Don't worry :) xx

I have 2 cats i had as kittens too...and boy and a girl...mine are just the same ..
Funnily enough when they were 8 week old kittens he was tiny and she was twice his size....
Now...
he is big and cuddly...very healthy but also with plain old bulk....
she is much smaller and thinner but equally healthy....
i would say they eat about the same ...the only difference is he likes the tinned food better and she likes dried although they do both eat a bit of both...
Si i guess the answer to your question is no ...its not uncommon.

no, not at all. my mom has 2 cats, brother and sister, just like you have. the female is 16 lbs, and the male is only 8 or 9 lbs.
they don't even have the same coloring at all...extremely different.
now, I've been told (can someone verify if this is true?) that a female can be impregnated by more than one male at the same time. I would guess that would explain such vast differences among siblings in the same litter if that is true.

I am sure they are fine, unless the sis has suddenly lost weight. Have you wormed them recently?

I have two cats that are brothers and they have very different personalities. They are both a reasonable size, but one is very lithe and the other is a 'splat cat', but they eat about the same. Cats, eh?

I have two brother cats and one is so much bigger than the other. The larger one doesn't eat that much and rarely wants cat meat preferring to eat biscuits, whereas his brother eats both meat and biscuits and is so much slimmer. So guess it can be quite common. They are about 8 yrs old and still active.

Cat females can mate with a number of males and each kitty can look different from the others in the same litter.

We have Georgie, a gigantic, mush pot, sissy, cheese eater. His brother Mr. Thompson is very tiny, and a holy terror ruling the neighbourhood and will attack dogs. Same litter.

Cheers.

If they were always like that it is probably normal. However, if it is a recent change, given their age, it would be a good idea to have the vet run blood work on them. It could be an underlying disorder or illness (like a thyroid problem or diabetes).

I have a mother and son, oriental havana brown, the mother weighs about three pounds, and is a tiny skinny little thing, the son weighs 14 pounds, is not fat, and is huge, you can grab his upright tail without bending down, as he passes, no idea why, I guess thats just the way it goes!

I too have two cats aged 10 they are sisters and they are both way to big but I don,t think I feed them to much.I think cats have a different metabolism individually, just like humans so as long as your cats are happy just enjoy their company.
