Perhaps its just a statement used in the south, but I've heard people say: "Guess what?" and you reply: "Chicken squat behind the washpot."
I have not idea what that means or how it answers the question 'guess what'.
Best guess - if plausable -- will be accepted!

I believe it would mean something like "How about that!" Though I do not now the exact reasons why this term is said, I can create a plausible scenario for its usage.

Imagine a man, ill say, From Kentucky. Its 100 years ago. He's trying to kill one of his chickens for dinner, but the chicken gets away. He takes out his gun to try and shoot it, and he suddenly ran behind a metal wash bin, as if it knew it was going to be killed by a rifle shot.

My guess is that the man would have said, "Chicken squat behind the wash pot!", had a laugh, and then continued to try and catch the chicken. Therefore, it makes sense that the term is meant to designate surprise in some way. So, if someone says, "Guess what?" it could just mean that they were surprised to have been asked a question at that time.
