When you ask a Q like this, you will get a handful of answerers & opinions of experiences.
I will post the most recent results of a study by J.D.Powers & Associates.
This is an ongoing study & is published anually.
They collect data on THOUSANDS of vehicles.
The study is of vehicles on the road for 3 years.
The data recorded is based on how many times the vehicles are in the repair shop over the 1st 3 years on the road. (not related to maintenance, ie oil change, tire rotation etc)
This will determine the "reliability" factor of any manufacturer.

Im gonna Copy&Paste a previous answer for you:

I bought a 2002 Kia Rio in 2001 and I have never had it break down on me. I have had to do the regular stuff, oil changes, new tires, etc. But it has been a really reliable car. I get about 30 miles per gallon freeway and 25 on the side streets.

My wife bought a 2002 Rio before we met, and I have to say it has been a very good car. It has driven across the country twice, and gets very good gas mileage. The only thing I might complain about is the small gas tank (10 gallons), but I am used to my 87 4cyl mustang with a 15 gallon tank. She has to fill up more often than I do. By the way, I am 6 feet tall, and can drive it comfortably, but no one can sit behind me. Visit streetkiaz.com for more info and lots of knowledgeable people.

They're better than they used to be. The old ones are all korean-built mazdas. Build quality was spotty, though.
see: http://carsurvey.org/manufacturer_Kia.html

The people who got good ones were all very happy, those who didn't very unhappy.

The new Kias (after 2000) are all Hyundais. Newer Hyundais aren't bad. Fuel efficiency is generally okay, but the Japanese makes do better.

No. Never ever ever buy a Kia. I have one that is on its way back to the dealership. They are cheap because the parts cost you an arm and a leg..if you can find them. The car is really a Hyundai because it uses all their parts. Really the cost upfront is not worth your troubles.

Ummm... I've heard some people say they are a piece of crap. My friend has one and she spends her time at the dealer trying to fix something, however, my uncle has a new one and he has no complaints. It runs great and it was cheap comprared to other automobiles. It doesn't consume a lot of gas so he says it's good. I wouldn't buy it for me since I don't like the models they have, but if you don't care about how they look, then buy it. At the end, they give you guarantee and if it breaks all the time, you can go to the dealer all the time too for free!

Kia cars are not reliable. They break down a lot.

i say that they r good cars especially if you take care of them...my mom has a 2003 KIA optima and it runs great, she got a stick shift instead of automatic and just recently had her brakes changed for the first time since she got the car......so my vote is yes for kia's!
