Depends on how much you're willing to spend and when you plan on going. If you can afford it, you might want to consider a coastal tour in California where you fly into San Diego, rent a car for a week, and take your time driving up the coast to San Francisco and stopping along the way in places like LA, Santa Barbara, the Central Coast, Cambria (Hearst Castle), Monterey, Big Sur, etc. If you're willing to spend more for a REALLY great vacation, do Maui or Kauai (I like Kauai because it's not as heavily trafficked by tourists so it's a better get-away-from-it-all vacation destination). If you do Maui, try to stay near Lahaina. If you do Kauai, stay in Princeville -- it's on the north side of the island so you have a longer drive to get places but it is absolutely GORGEOUS up there!

Reading your post, how are we to know which "country" you are talking about? Since you mentioned "vegas," I suppose you must be talking about Mexico or maybe Costa Rica, right?
Of course I realize you are talking about the United States. How did I know? Because people from the United States - almost without exception, truly - automatically assume that EVERYONE is from there and consequently the only "given" is that you are talking about the "good ol' USA" and everyone should just know that because the USA is the only place there is.
Don't you think it would be more cosmopolitan, sophisticated, worldly, and knowledgeable if you didn't assume that everyone in the world automatically thinks of the USA whenever they see the word "country"? Do you know what the definition of "provincial" is? Do you understand why that tv series "The Beverly Hillbillies" is such a perfect example of how the rest of the world views people from the United States? The assmption is that you are all rich and totally unsophisticated about the rest of the world.
Not that any of this matters to most United Statesians, however.
Alas.

New Orleans is fun, and a good place for a boyfriend and girlfriend vacation.

If you've never been - try a cruise - 7 days. Everything is there for you and some pretty neat ports!
