i have tried rebooting wont work tried formatting using a 95 startup disk wont work my xp disk wont recover or format says cant find my drives i downloaded a programme and that caused the prob i think i have a virus or its changed my computer.
i also hve a ide controller card running my hard drive and i think the problems there any advice would be appreciated i have avg and norton antivirus

when i press the key to reboot it says
reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

it started after i downloaded a programme and asked to restart system

thanks martin but i used the floppy for formatting fdisk etc etc.
but the way the systems playing up it cannot see any drives so i think its a boot virus cauing the prob

Hi, your pc won't boot up using a 95 disc. You will need an xp one. You will be able to download one if you can get access to another pc. Try the makers website. If your pc is a packard bell I may be able to help you out and email you one.

Its not a good idea to have 2 anti virus systems and my experience with norton is that it can be unstable. I have had things hack norton and turn off anti virus and the live update.

The system does not see your boot disc. Make sure that your power cable AND data cable are well plugged into the IDE1 drive.
Once you know they are, if the problem persists, you may have a bad power supply or you 'lost' your HDD

possibly start it in safe mode (get to this normally by pressing F12 i think as its doing the night rider bit). then if you can continue as normal and then try a system restore.......who knows it might work!!
