I agree, 101%;) We, Atheists, are the only hope for the future of Mankind. Without our resistance, the world would fall completely into the hands of religious fanatics unaware of being nothing but pawns in the hands of greedy political leaders who use Religion as a means to control the Planet. That's why we don't have to give up;)

No one people is innocent of that. Except perhaps the Wiccans (who teach tolerance of all things) and the Buddhists (who are pacifists). Pretty much everyone else has started a war at some time or another.

So in this case, though I do agree with the sentiment in that religion has started far more wars than Atheism, its a false assumption to think that Atheists have started no wars.

No, not at all, well at least the war part. Most wars, if not all, are not fought for religious reasons, many do however, use relirion as an excuse. If all religions were completely and totally removed from the face of the earth, there would still be the same amount of wars and violence.

as an athiest, that sounds pointless

Holy wars were obviously not started by YOUR people (as i want nothing to do with you)
but when was the last time an athiest was in the position to start a war?
people who are elected to power, or who just take over a position generally have some relgious backround...
athiests are in the minority here...that's like asking when the last time a purple frog tap danced for the queen of england was

history did not commence at 1750, you already know? "then we had WWII with Germany... that wasn't about faith,,, those jap dropped the bombs on us,,, for some reason. Hitler change into indignant at Polish for no longer giving him the land, it truly is even as Russia began threatening Hitler" E- in history one 0 one. examine Dreamstuff's profile, there are a good number of non secular wars protected. No it's the system that produces humans to kill each other in support of the system.
Humans have little choice in the matter, they all think they are doing God's will, and will be rewarded in death when they sacrifice themselves for the glory of honoring him.
The system works! That is if death is the goal.
How would religion look, if life were the goal of the system? Not life after death mind you, life.

_Most_ wars and atrocities involve religion: the crusades, the inquisition, the Nazis, etc.

What _really_ causes and makes monstrous behaviour possible is certainty. It's the difference between these:

1) "I'm right, and you're wrong."

2) "I'm right, and you're wrong, therefore I can kill you."

The only reason that religion is responsible for 99.95% of all the world's violence is because of it's nature: All religions teach absolute certainty. The Soviets, Khmer Rouge and other communism also claimed such certainties, that's why they were capable of war crimes despite being atheists.

All societies that were openminded and welcomed uncertainty never committed a single atrocity, ever.

What a bunch of baloney.

Most wars are started because of power, land, and money. Open a history book sometime.

Hitler wasn't religious.

Neither was Stalin. These are pretty bad dudes. They murdered MILLIONS of people. So you don't have to go around thinking religious people start all the wars. It ain't true.

Hitler started a huge war, and Stalin was bonded to him at the beginning of it. And both Hitler and Stalin murdered MILLIONS of their own citizens!
