The best way is to simply not play at all. Gambling is generally just a waste of money...BUUUT even if you are going to play, it's difficult to have any sort of real strategy with roulette since it is so random, more so than most card games. Just remember that the more money you put down the better your chances of winning are, however, the more likely you are to lose a lot.

You cannot devise a strategy to win in a random game. The green on the board defeats the whole gamut of combinations and this is set to occur once in every 37 times. This is sufficient for the house to come out on top. Even if you back green you cannot win as the odds you are given are less than 1 in 37. So do not play, unless you would otherwise put your money in a fruit machine or another random game. However, I will say that as random games go, roulette appears to give the punter the greatest percentage of stake returned. but to see how quickly you may lose, keep multiplying your initial stake by 0.972972 recurring.

If your going play then here's a bit of advise,
on an American roulette table the wheel is set out in a particular fashion. This allows you to bet on groups of numbers, these are called sections and there are three of them (Voisins Du Zero, Orphelins and Tier). You can also bet neighbours which is a bet on a number and the two numbers either side. Ask the croupier about them they will make playing on the table a little easier.

Anyone that tells you that you can gain an advantage playing roulette is lying.
On a bet on an individual number, you get paid 35 to 1 when the breakeven is 37 to 1.
On a red/black/odd/even bet, you get paid 1 to 1 when the breakeven is 1.11 to 1.
On a row bet, you get paid 11 to 1 when the breakeven is 11.67 to 1.
On a column bet, you get paid 2 to 1 when the breakeven is 2.17 to 1.
They all pay below what you need to break even. Every spin has a 5.3% house advantage, any way you cut it.
You can't beat the game long-term (not even with the Martingale strategy, see below). Play for fun if you want to, but there's no "best" or "proper" way to play.

There are a couple of things you can do to gain an advantage at roulette. next time you are in the casino try this.
Wait until a 5 or 6 has been spun on the wheel. On the next spin place a bet on the 1st and 2nd dozen at the same time. The spin will be one of those dozens about 80% of the time.
This applies to other numbers as well but it is too detailed to described here.

buy a stack of 80 $1 chips. have a seat, stretch your legs and order a double single malt scotch. bet number 18 for a dollar and 2 on black for the waitress. keep betting 18 for a dollar for three hours. if you are the unluckiest person in the world you gambled for a long time tipped your waitress got drunk on some fine whiskey and had a good time. but smart gambling is about extending you time at the table while in search of a hot streak. if you doubled your money it is a great session.

KISS ie., Keep - It - Simple - Stupid. That's what has been taught to me on most everything in life, so follow that thinking by staying with betting on red or black. Eventually you will learn more and feel better about venturing out onto the wild side, but as with all gaming NEVER BET (or take with you) MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE.
GOOD LUCK -break a leg -and all that nonsense, you will need it.

my favorite casino game...I usually just bet black or red. I will bet green or zero once every 10 or 20 spins. Sometimes I will skip a play just to better my odds.(at least thats what I think I'm doing). At times I will bet odd or even. Its really up to you. I dont bet on a few diferen numbers becuase more than likely u will lose and if you bet 3 diff numbers and you win 1, u still lost the other 2 bets. so like I said It's up to you.
