Waxing does NOT cause the hair to grow back thick and become stubbly.
Waxing the arms DOES feel absoloutely beautiful and so smooth.
It will be probably be easier to go to a salon for the first time and have them professionally waxed as the wax is much better than at home wax. Afterwards maintain them with a strip wax, not a hot, hard wax. You can buy small tubs of strip wax which you heat in the microwave and apply thinly with a wooden spatula. You then place a cotton or calico strip over then top and pull against the growth of the hair.
The containers of wax always include directions for you.

*** I am 21 and have been waxing my arms for 7 years and I have never had any problems that some of the other people here have said, and none of my clients have ever had these problems either.

Don't wax...the hair coming back in will be really rough.

I know a woman who SHAVES her arms (and underarms) every other day to keep her arms smooth, but that seems like a lot of work to me.

Personally, I use a Personal Touch hair remover for unwanted hair all over my body. For my arms, I use the "short hair" snap-ons to thin/cut the hair on my arms. I still have hair on my arms but it is very short/fine.

I bought the Personal Touch (also known as Micro Touch/Bikini Touch) at my local drugstore for $9.95 and it requires one AA battery to use.
