My guy friends were teasing one of their friends because he wears tighty whities. I don't understand what the big deal is. I actually think guys look really cute in tighty whities --unless they are super-obese or anorexic! I like guys' butts and, let me tell you, boxers and boxer-briefs don't exactly highlight a man's cute asset! Anyway, I am currently seeing my tighty whitey guy and I have no complaints! So, tell me, what's the big deal??

Wow, only a few minutes and already so many responses! When someone says "I don't know, I JUST LIKE..." I feel as if they are choosing to stop thinking critically. There was a time when men wore loin cloths, "union suits", knee pants, etc. Every culture and time period has its own preferences. I suspect movies and television have helped us shape our preferences. Our country is so puritanical that boxers are widely used to hide men's assets. I suspect we have been conditioned to accept some things as cool and hip versus other items for many reasons including commercialism and male chauvinism. Why do women have to be so scantily clad in so many movies while men stay covered? I'm curious to see what you all think.

Whatever, I actually just had this discussion the other day...
First, while I typically prefer boxers, I have oddly been wearing briefs more and more lately - and with that are some schools of thought -
One viewpoint is that boxers are to a guy, as a tank top would be to a girl; as opposed to briefs on a guy, and a bra on a girl - I'm sure that's all that needs explaining there.
Breaking the stereotype, what about briefs that aren't white or aren't 100% cotton? I know a lot of companies make the 'stretch' kinds that don't start to sag - also, places like urban outfitters sell some pretty rad Paul Frank briefs
It also seems that boxer-briefs are for people who can't make up their mind. It's like they want to wear briefs, but don't want to give up the security of being a cool boxers guy.
At any rate, it's pretty ridiculous that briefs have such a bad rep. Maybe it's just where I live, but a lot of people would definitely look down on my decision to wear briefs from time to time. -and not that it would make or break a relationship, but I still get this vibe that the girls I’ve been with totally wouldn’t dig briefs (even though I personally (not to sound arrogant) think I’ve got the body for ‘em) - whatever though, right?

I don't see the big deal either.
I don't know if the anti-briefs sentiment is either puritanical, or an obsession with appearing as manly as possible.
Going way, way back, men wore loincloths (closer to briefs), women wore skirts (which were more like loose boxers than panties). Traditionally (and still the case in some countries), woman covered themselves up more than men did (just do some research on the history of clothes, esp. underwear). Now, men's exposed bodies are becoming more taboo. Just think: in the hot summer, a girl can attend a summer college course wearing skimpy attire (short shorts, tiny shirts, flip flops, etc). However, if a guy were to show up scantily dressed, he's being vulgar and tasteless -- most people are hardwired to think this way, in fact.
That's where the anti-briefs feeling comes from, I think.
If you take female breasts out of the "equation", men's exposed bodies are considered more taboo than women's in American society.
I still don't think tightie whities are a big deal though. Your bf's friends need to get a life, really.

I think it's because that's what kids wear when their little and plus on most guys they look small (hence tighty whities) and they look silly on some some guys. It's mostly an immature thing that guys do, they want to feel superior to him because they wear boxers or whatever. There's honestly nothing wrong with it at all!

I dont know what the big deal is either. Some guys just like support. And they also make Tighty Whities in colors now so men can wear Tightie Redies or Tighty Greenies or Bluies or Blackies.

Personally, they are not comfortable. I am a boxer briefs man. They are more comfortable than TW's, but a little more supportive than boxers. Who knows, it is a matter of preference.
The funniest thing I can remember in college was catching one of my buddies walking to the laundry roon in the dorm in tighty whities. I have not laughed that hard since then that I can recall. Tennis shoes, and ball cap, and his underwear. But, you probably had to be there.

Real men have better things to do then think of how to look cute in their underwear. I'm a bit too old to tease but men in cutey pie briefs seem just a bit silly for my liking.
You see old farts like me are trying to train these young boys to be responsible men that can raise families. Meanwhile too many young girls are rewarding these boys for acting like boys.
Seriously what will be more important in your life, the briefs your boyfriend wears or the amount of man you make your children with with.

In my area, boxers seem to be more popular among the "jocks", who, yes, wear their pants low. Most "normal" people wear briefs or boxer-briefs. Much of it is a matter of support.(I think the jocks get enough support from their jock straps during sports, so they don't want that support 24-7). I personally wear TW's, and I don't mind them. They're not necessaraly for little kids and old farts only, they're just for the normal people who like a little support south of the beltline.

it's an insecurity issue with guys, there is an unexplainable cool with boxers, it's kinda like you wear tiny-whities when you are a kid then when you become a man it's time for boxers. honestly there is nothing wrong with the TWs i tend to go back and forth between the two.

Fortunately, tighty-whities hold my "wedding tackle" in place quite nicely. No slippage, little moving, no accidents.
There is no big deal. I find it amusing that guys who wear boxers want to show them to you from their low hanging pants. Yeah, that's appealing. Didn't that "style" originate in county jails?
