I don't think they are cruel. A nice wool sweater keeps my pug warm and dry on those snowy days. She knows she is going somewhere fun as soon as I pull the clothes out.

It would be cruel to put something tight on them or something that they weren't able to walk in, but there is nothing cruel about putting a shirt or dress on them.

It's cute and the dogs get lots of attention while wearing the clothes. What dog doesn't love attention?

I was never into stuff like that when I had my dog. Just the thought of dressing a dog up like a pumpkin or santa or some thing stupid is enough for me. It's ok to put a dog sweater on a dog, that's cool. But, come on now, dressing a dog with all of those hideous costumes? Dressing a dog up isn't being cruel, to me it's just down right stupid. And I don't think there is any dog out there that actually likes those costumes either.

I wouldn't say it's cruel, but pretty pointless alright just like walking a dog inside a stroller??? They have fur so anyone thinking dressing them keeps them warm is wrong.
The only reason people dress their dogs is for the same reason we dress dolls; its entertainment! The dog won't thank you for it, so don't think its for their benefit that you do it. But hey, if you enjoy the added work of washing dog clothes then fair play.

They are not cruel, unless it is hurting the dog physically it is not cruel... it is tacky and a silly passing trend made popular by the oh-so-irresponsible dog owners of Hollywood, namely Paris hilton and her "tinkerbell"....
However, living in New England or anywhere where it gets to be 5 outside (like it is currently here) a short haired breed needs a sweater to not freeze outside

that depends on the dog. if the dog shows no problem with the cloths on him or her... there is no problem, but if the dog tries chewing on it or tearing at it, the dog probably doesn't like it and wouldn't be a good idea to keep putting it on them.

i don't think they are cruel...but once outside in the cold my dog wears a coat because it is very cold outside and he is a chihuahua. In the house he does not wear clothing...and he does not like it at all but outside it does not seem to bother him,

My dogs have a couple different sweaters. I don't think their anymore cruel than them having to go outside and freeze and they don't seem to mind them either.

Is it cruel? Only if they feel any pain from it or are unable to get around easily. Do they like them? If they are cold, they love the added warmth, but otherwise I seriously doubt they care either way.

My dog loves sweaters and jackets. If its cold she will go to the draw where I keep her stuff and bark till I put one on her. She has been wearing them since she was a pup.

well, I'm not a dog, so I don't know if they like them. I think a sweater in winter might be nice once in a while, but otherwise I think it's like dogs forcing people to sniff fire hydrants or something.
