I'm trying to find a decent breast pump, but $300 is way over my budget. I'm more in the $100 - $200 price range. Does anyone have any comments on any pumps that are cheaper (experiences, comments on how they work, different brand suggestions, etc.) ?

I use Avent. I only pump occasionally, and this is perfect for it. It is only $50. It is a manual pump with a gentle flex system. It works wonderfully. If you plan on pumping exclusively, you might want to look into renting one from the hospital.

You can buy the actual pump used, and just get new attachments. Ive been to a few Mothers of Multiples, Mothers of Twins, etc rummage sales and they'll often have them for about 1/4 of the price. Also if you work for a company, or the father does, they may have a lactation program where you can get one for a discount.

AVENT manual breast pump is wonderful! I tried an automatic and it was a very expensive one, but it was just too uncomfortable. I enjoyed being in charge of the rhythm and strength of the breast pump. That's why I used a manual and Avent isn't expensive, maybe fifty dollars at most. You can even get one for free at your local WIC office.

I bought a used one and it worked great. The company says not to, but all the parts that come anywhere near the milk or my breast can be bought new and/or sterilized. I did hear from someone who said she bought a used one with an engine that was essentially worn out. You may want to ask how many children it was used for and how many times a day it was used to see if you can get one 'gently used'.

You can buy a used one. I know that sounds gross, but you are really just paying for the motor part. Just buy new tubes and the parts that touch you and the milk. I bet you could find one that has barely been used, if at all if you looked.

Check out ebay - I looked up Medela (that's the one I have) and it came up with some that are brand new in the box.

Avent do a fabulous breast pump, and it actually worked, I was amazed and it was only £29.99, I am sure you could find one on eBay, if it is not a brand name you are familiar with.

i highly recommend renting one from your hospital - they will have info on this for you when you are in recovery. a brand new one is going to cost you at least $200 to $300. or, try eBay for used ones and just have the hospital give you the parts that go on your body and collect the milk new.

I've tried a cheaper one and it really didn't work all that well and hurt like heck. You can rent them at the hospital where you had your baby. They will be able to show you what works best for you, if you even need one, etc.
