What does this word mean when a dog is aloof?

It means he doesn't run up to strangers like they're his long-lost best friends. An aloof dog stands back a bit and decides whether or not he wants to make friends - they're not aggressive, just cautious.

Aloof usually means that the dog is unattached to strangers. An aloof dog is usually unfriendly and uninterested in opening themselves up to a stranger, although they might still be affectionate to their master.

Aloof - removed or distant in interest or feeling; indifferent (per Webster's Dictionary). Basically, he doesn't give a damn.
