At 5 months he's likely just about finished teething, so his chewing will be a bit less. However, puppies still chew - he needs lots of toys of different textures he can chew on and he has to be taught what he can't chew on. A puppy this young, still needs to be in a crate when no one can be home to train him.

They stop chewing on things once they know it's wrong! The best technique is the simple rattle bottle. Find a bottle and stuff rocks and pebbles in it and whenever he chews something, shake the bottle and shout NO! in a scary voice. As he gets better, forget the rattle bottle and just shout NO! Soon he will stop completely. Good Luck! (u need it!)

u could also give him lots of toys and really get ur scent on them so he doesn't chew anything other than his toys! (make sure it doesn't taste like anything he chews!)

and also, never give into those puppy eyes when u tell him off!!!

My dog finally cut back on the chewing between 9 mos and 1 year. She will still chew occasionally (will be 2 in May), so it's always a good idea to maintain a reserve of toys they are allowed to chew on. My dog really likes rawhides, and sections of cow femur bones. The cow bones are available at most pet supply stores and come with a variety of flavoured fillings, however, if you're less squeamish, you can usually find raw sections wtih all the tasty marrow in them at the local butcher or grocery store meat department (sometimes labeled as soup bones). Pork bones will also work, but steer clear of any chicken/bird bones as these tend to shatter and can cause serious injury to the dog.

best of luck with the pup!

For the most part puppies chew because they are losing there teeth. If your puppy is chewing when you are out of the room for a period of time or even when you are around, its probably boredom. give him toys to play with and give the puppy more attention. But some dogs never grow out of this, but most do.

good luck

use lemon juice on SOME of the things you don't want him to chew. and don't give it any toys that are plush to chew on that makes an easy transition from a stuffed toy to the furniture and rugs. give the dog a NYLA BONE it is made from completely puppy safe materials and you should be able to find then at any pet store. stay away from raw hide it is bleached with formaldehyde and sticks to their stomach. don't let ppl fool you there is not a good kind of raw hide. instead go with some kind of natural bone something without ingredients.

My dachshund will be 2 in June and still chews like a new puppy. I also want this phase to get over so he doesn't have to be in his kennel. He chewed my son's eyeglasses to nothing but twisted metal. I know how you feel.

okay heres what i did. my puppy chewed the legs to my tables, the arms of my chairs, and the doors to the bedrooms. drove me nutts. he would only do it when i left, not when anybody else left. he was attached. i took old socks, and wore them around the house for a few hours, to get my scent. i tied knotts in them and played with him with them, to show him he can chew that. it took a little practice, but now he doesnt care about anything else, but his bones and my socks! i tried the kennel thing, its terrible. just work with him. buy dog repellent spray. IT WORKS!
