I'm a single 45-year old American male (straight!!!) going to Bali for a weekend in March. Much of what I read is about female tourists (mainly Australian) getting hit on by local boys.
I'm staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. Will there be many female tourists in March, and is there any point in having any expectations of meeting any nice women (other than the locals)?

i was there last year (March 9-11) and i see lots of asian girl (from Japan & Taiwan). maybe u can hit on them this year ? :)
and don't worry. Hard Rock Hotel has very good & strategic location!!! u can look for hot chicks at night bars / night clubs around there or at Kuta Beach in front of the hotel...

What you read is pretty much true...
Hard Rock is a nicely located place, and Kuta is the center of tourist attraction...you'll surely can hook up with one or two
