Shes 16 years old. My family got her the year before I was born. Shes a terrific cat but she trys to drink out of the toilet all the time! I dont get it. I always have fresh cool water out for her 24 /7. I change the water twice daily. She still trys to drink out of the toilet! If my sister leaves the lid up, the cat will run in there hop up and stick her head in their? Why do cats drink out of the toilet? How can I stop her?

Lucky will also drink out of a normal bowl, but lately has been obsessed with the toilet.

Most cats I've encountered love to do the same thing. My grandma was worried about her cat, so always puts the lid down and has set a bowl of fresh water on the counter next to the toilet. The cat loves it there. There is no reason that cats and dogs do it besides that the water there is probably a lot cooler than the water set out for them.
Also, water in the toilet is cleaner than what most people think. As long as you keep the toilet cleaned...there isn't much to worry about.

Toilet water is usually colder than 'bowl' water.
I have seen small 'water coolers' for cats AND dogs that keeps the water cool and refreshing. I've even seen small toilet shaped ceramic bowls for pets!
Either go to an online shopping site and look for this kind of thing, or look in the back of a Catfancy magazine. Do try to keep them away from your toilet, however....

thats because the water in the toilet is constantly circulating keeping it fresh. The water in the bowl just sits and become stagnant, losing the fresh taste. Thats why animals will always go for the toilet or the fish tank or the water dripping from the plant.

Personally I dont think there is an explanation to WHY your cat is obessed with the toilet. My cat would very OCCASSIONALLY drink clean water from his bowl, but would most often prefere dirty water like rain water, pond water and even toilet water if i ever left the toilet door open. Guess its whatever takes their fancy.

Cats like the hunt for water. my cat likes to drink out of the water facuet. They like to find fresh water anyway, other than their bowl. She also likes to drink water out of our cups on the table.

Ctas like their water set at room temperature, toilet bowl never gets cold. That's why when you give them water they let it sit for a while even if their thirsty

my cat loves to drink out of the toilet,because the water is very cold.
and they only drink it if it's clean water,cats won't drink out of it unless it is clean.lol

My cat does the same, I think it feels cooler in a ceramic basin and mine is facinated when the toilet flushes when I clean it.
