I just got a job I really want and found out they require drug testing. I'm worried because, about a year ago, I was hospitalized for 3 days for severe depression. At that time they tested me, and the test came back positive for marijuana. I don't smoke pot and I'm not around anyone who does! I finally convinced my shrink that I don't, but she was pretty skeptical for a while. She never did run another test to check, unfortunately.

I'm hoping it was just a fluke or a lab mix-up, but I'm freaking out because I'm worried that maybe something I eat or meds I take might cause a false-positive result. I take Klonopin, Lexapro, omega-3 fish oil, and a multivitamin with one herb in it (lutein - tagetes erecta flower). Other than that, I can't think of what might cause this, except for it being a fluke or mix-up that one time.

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, etc.? Thanks.

Asparagus and ibuprofen can cause false positives. Ibuprofen is an over the counter pain reliever such as Motrin or Aleve. If you were taking these meds or easting asparagus I would ask for another test. Good Luck.

Coulda been a fluke. When you give your urine sample for the drug test, the urine will be poured into two containers. They will test one. If it tests positive, you can contest it and they will run more detailed tests on the other sample.

That time in the hospital, the shrink could have been just reaching also, trying to get you to own up to doing some sort of drugs.

If the positive test was a year ago, and you have not been around anyone smoking marijuana since, you should be fine. Being around others who smoke will cause you to have a positive test. They inhale deep and hold it, most of the residue ends up in their brain....you just breath naturally and the smoke ends up in the lungs and eventually in the bloodstream. You will usually test positive for up to 90 days after exposure. So without any contact with a stoner, you should be fine.

Since you have a chronic illness, do you take any kind of medication? If you do find out what ingrediants are used in it. I think that there are some sort of pain killers or other medication that use a small dosage of marijuana in them to calm or relax you. I'm not really sure but that's the only reason that i can thnk of. But good luck job hunting!!!

Disclose all the medications you are taking before you actually take the drug test. The only way you can be positive for THC in your body is if you actually smoke it yourself. Even if you're around someone who does it, it would take a massive amount for your results to be positive. In other words, the only way that can happen is if you "hot box" with someone for a few hours......420!

Just be sure they have a list of all medications you're taking including vitamins, supplements and natural or herbal additions. You shouldn't test positive for THC unless you've had some contact with it!

possibly a mistake at the lab but unlikely, best bet is just to chill and if they come back positive you will have to confront the people that do the testing because the have to have made a mistake or didnt do the test very well or something. if it comes back positive get a lawyer lol.

Go to your local health food store. they have products that you ingest or drink and it cleans your system out. Be prepared to drink and urinate like there is no tomorrow. These types of products are legal and effective. You should not have to worry about the testing.
