If a 4 year-old came up to me and reached into my jacket pocket not aware of taking out my cell phone, and I accidentally pushed him making him fall onto the ground, would I get sued by the parents?

It depends on whether they are decent people. But a kid picking your pocket tells me they're not. Get a Lawyer.

You can be sued by anyone for anything. You have no right to touch another person's child for any reason - actually you have no right to touch anyone for any reason. If they don't like how you touched them, whether or not you claim it was accidental, they can press charges.

If you think a 4-year-old has taken something of yours, well, it depends on if these are strangers or someone you know. If they were strangers, I would let the parents know about it first. If they weren't responsive, I would involve the police. If these are people you know and have frequent contact with, make sure your possessions are out of the child's reach - then if the child does take something of yours, tell the parents. Hopefully you wouldn't have to involve the authorities in a situation involving a 4-year-old child of someone you know.

However, no matter what, you still have no right to take the matter into your own hands physically.

how can you honestly say that you accidentally pushed them? Sounds to me like you already have it planned.

its called child abuse , so people say. and they blame everyone else but themselfs for allowing their children to do what they want. and then they complain about it.
