Mine has exposed roots. If that's the case it looks like there is a hole in the teeth right at the gum line, its actually the roots of the tooth that are exposed. The vet said it was fine temporarily, the dogs teeth don't have as many nerves as ours do so its not necessarily going to cause alot of pain. I would definatetly set up a vet appt and consider a teeth cleaning and check the condition of the gums. If a root is exposed its likely gum disease is present or soon to show itself and that can lead to tooth loss. I'd suggest brushing the dog's teeth more often but the tooth brush WILL irritate the exposed root so talk to the vet first

Are you kidding? If you broke a tooth and could see your nerve, would you wait to go to the dentist? You should take him to the vet before the nerve is completely exposed and your dog is in constant pain.

I suggest that you take your dog to the vet. I would not play
around with his tooth. It does not seem to be normal.
