Coconut is not a tree nut from any of the literature I've read, and my son is not allergic to it, but all the coconut packages I've come across always have the "may contain trace amount of nut/peanuts" I am looking for a place to buy coconut that will not have cross-contamination. I've found nearly everything else for baking that has not been cross contaminated, but no luck so far with coconut. Thank you.

What about seeds, tropical oils, exotic nuts?
Foods such as water chestnut, pine nut (pignolia or pinyon nuts), coconut, nutmeg do not need to be avoided by nut allergic people unless they are also allergic to these foods. However, allergies to these foods are uncommon. Palm oil and tropical oils do not need to be avoided. Seeds, e.g., sesame, sunflower, poppy, mustard, safflower, canola, do not need to be avoided unless you are allergic to these as well.

I think the best way is to buy a whole coconut (they aren't expensive), open them up, dry and grate the coconut meal, if you wish. This way you know that no peanut, not matter how persistent, made it into your dish :)

Your best bet will be to buy whole, fresh coconuts. That way the meat will be sealed in its shell until you're ready to use it.
