maybe because he's HUNGRY and THIRSTY. Feed and water him and that should correct your problem. If he were crate trained, he wouldn't be doing this in the first place.

I agree with what some others have said, at 5 1/2 months the dog should only be crated for 4 hours at a time. Make sure the crate is just big enough for the dog to lay down in. Give your dog food at a regular time each day and should have water available always. (Talk to your vet about how much food to give). Also, since it has already used the crate as a bathroom once, it sees (or actually smells) the crate the place to go to the bathroom. Clean the crate completely with an odor eliminating cleaner (like Simple Solution).
Good luck

That needs to stop now or he will be a s--- eater for the rest of his life. It is not uncommon for a dog to do that in his early months of life but you need to ask your vet for advice to make him stop. Or get a trainer. One thing to do is get him out of his crate now. Maybe it is time to not be crate trained. I don't think he likes being in the crate and he isn't being trained in the crate if he poops and pees in the crate and not outside. It is a vulnerable time for a 5 1/2 month old dog. stop him now so he can grow into a great dog.

Your dog is NOT crate trained if he is urinating and pooping in it-that defeats the whole purpose of crate training. Sounds like he is in it for way too long. Puppies can only hold it for so long. Try getting a smaller crate big enough for him to stand comfortably in and to turn around with ease, but not too large where he can walk around.
As for eating it, that part is normal. It is a vitamin deficiency.

My first thought is too much time in the crate and not getting it cleaned up promptly. Does he have a "potty" command and spot, are taking him out at regular and appropriate times? Is the crate the right size? There are a number of things that could cause this, malnutrition/hunger and thirst, too small of a crate, not being able to get out of his own waste. There is not enough info in your question to be able to accurately help.
Blonde - J-Breezey - NOT GOOD This behavior is not good or normal (maybe for rabbits - that I wouldn't know) Properly cared for dogs should not be doing this! Dogs eating thier own feces or urine is a SYMPTOM of a problem. Now cat poop is another story, dogs love this stuff - but still not good for them and you should do all you can to prevent your dog from eating any poop!

First, the crate is too big for him. The crate should only be big enough for a dog to stand, lay, and turn around in or they'll go to the bathroom in one area and sleep in the other. As for eating its urine and feces - is it being fed regularly? Does it have access to water while in the crate? Occasionally dogs will eat their poo if they're not getting enough nutrients, but a puppy of that age, if being fed a decent food, should be fine.

canines won't soil their dozing section yet you will possibly desire to permit the domestic dog out each couple of hours simply by fact they have finished bladders speedier than an grownup canines. nevertheless your canines is only 2 months wanting that distinction that's advisable to place some chew toys interior the crate and save crate in yet another section the place she does not see you. She has to earnings a settling down time. Like we flow to sleep early and get up early.. she would be able to be exterior at 3 or 4am and lower back in for breakfast :-) not than 8 hours is suggested. Our canines loves her kennel/crate she sleeps there with the door open, its her risk-free place, its the place her toys are and that i could exceedingly advise it to everyone.

He is being crated too long. Poor thing.
They need to have fresh water and regular meal times.
They need a better routine. More walks and time to urinate/poop.
This is a serious nervous condition. He is young so I hope he can be retrained and with his owner.
He needs to be out of that crate. Its his sleeping "cave".

Dogs don't want to lay in their own filth, this explains why it is digeting it (to get rid of it.) Sounds like you have the dog in there WAYYY too long. A 5 month old shouldn't be crated longer than 5 hours at a time.

hmm thats really gross!! how long have you been leaving him in the kennel? maybe he simply cant hold it that long... even so, i dont know what would make him eat it! is your kennel too big for him? alot of times they will defacate the area if there is enough room to do so, and get away from it. my only suggestion there would be to make the kennel smaller somehow. my dogs both ate the kitty poo from the litter box when they were puppies but i havent had a problem otherwise.

Nerves. you need to lavish treats on him when he is in the crate and make it comfortable for him. He sill eventually make it his home.
Are you using the crate as punishment or leaving him in too long? Never do that ....he needs to relieve himself frequently and he needs to associate the crate with something good, not something bad.
