You would get a good idea if you took your dog to the vets for a scan but even then pups may be hidden by others. Still you would have a fairly accurate number to expect. That is the only way.

you can't tell. The only way to get a good idea is to go to the vets and have the dog scanned, this should give you an idea of the size of the litter. However only an estimate can be done as sometimes during the scan a pup may be hidden behind another pup, thereofre he goes un noticed.

I just had my 3rd litter of puppies and really the only way you can tell is getting an x-ray from your vet. My first litter we had 7 puppies, and all that they could tell was around 5. At least that would give you a good idea!

i dont think a breed of dog has a specific ammount of puppies, my dogs mother had 3 with her first litter and 8 with her second. i no larger breeds have more puppies than smaller ones. i think your local vet will be able to find out after a scan. hope this helps

Take your dog to a vet , your vet can scan the dog by the heartbeats, your vet can tell how many puppies your litter is going to be.

The vet will do a scan
but it is expensive - as much as £90
I know a breeder who has his dogs scanned for only £35
He goes to the local farm where a woman comes around with a portable scanner to scan the sheep
Ask your local sheep farmer to phone you when they come around - it's at this time of year

What breed of dog do you have? You can usually find out by asking breeders or researching that particular breed but obviously even then the number of puppies can vary, although not dramatically.

Your vet can perform an xray, however it is not always accurate. It will give you a MINIMUM number, but sometimes the developing immature bones do not always show up and they can overlap with each other and appear as less than what there are. An xray extremely close to her due date will give you the best result. Remember that it is typical that larger breed dogs have larger litters than smaller dogs. Not always the case, but more likely.

hi to tell the truth no one can really tell you as my jack russell was pregant i took her to the vet and he did all the test and scans said she is having five but she ended up having eight.plus i think it all depends on your breed of dog the small breeds tend to have up to three, medium dogs up to ten and the larger dog can have up to 20 pups.
hope this helps.

Your vet can scan for how many pups there are.
Retrievers like labs and goldens normally have bigger litters. That is why retrievers are normally cheaper.
Toy dogs are more expensive because toys have smaller litters.
